Help listing a server - KellyR - 11-25-2013

Hello

Before you tell me to go to the 'Other Servers' board, I have been there and applied there and I get no response. I have been waitingh almost 5 months since my ISP changed my IP address and I get no response from the listkeeper. I am starting to get REALLY REALLY ANGRY That they would provide the software to run a discovery server and then make it impossible to be listed. Or possible for some but not for others. No, scratch the starting to. I am REALLY, REALLY ANGRY!!!!

WHAT THE **** IS GOING ON HERE?

There are 3, maybe 5 servers that get no response when they ask to be listed on the in-game server list.

This has all but killed our servers. We work hard to setup these servers, pay good money for the machines to host them on, some even buy a dedicated game host service. And then the listkeepesr blow us off. If we say anything or complain about it we're "ungrateful". Well, right now I'm not feeling a lot to be grateful for. Grateful that my server has almost no trafic and the listkeepers just blow me off when in my request I make it clear I have a static DYN host with an ip updater installed so when my ISP takes it into their mind to change my IP address I won't drop off the list again, effctivley saving the listkeepers time?

I wonder how the peopole who run the main server would feel if that server dropped off the list and they couldn't get listed. Most likely they'd be as angry or even moreso, if that's possible, than I'm feeling right now.

Everyone who comes to this thread please go to this page on our forums. We have given out a way around the lazy people that are in charge of getting the servers listed. It is a patch that allows you to see all the servers on the beautiful community of freelancer.

Attention all Admins of these servers that have been wrongly unlisted: For your server to be listed, even with the use of this program, you must ensure that the Hostname = gun.fllistserver.com line in your server's freelancer.ini file is uncommented.

By default, Discovery Freelancer ships with this line commented out with a semicolon in front of it like what is shown below

;Hostname = gun.fllistserver.com

All credit goes to KellyR and KellyR alone. I did not help her with this program but I will soon spread the word. Thank you for viewing, and safe flights to all.

The truth is that there is not much usage of 50 servers with 2-3 players average population and one main server with 90 people average population.
The game is 10 years old and even if I admire the determination to host and upkeep other servers then the GC I find it useless and even harmful concerning the current activity.
However if the local people in charge agreed about the listing then they should keep their word on it.

That's my point exactly. If they didn't want us to host servers, why include all the plugin files? They're only needed to host a server. If you're just going to play, you don't need them.

As it seems the one responsible about the listing is not around anymore, so it is not intentional. The people that are on board having already hard time dealing with the stuff resulting his absence and I guess this is the reason why you got forgotten.

This makes it even worse. I offered my time for free to maintain the list and was ignored!!!. I made the offer to an admin in PM and also in open forum. So you'll forgive me if I don't have a lot of sympathy.

GUN server admin != Discovery server admin.

RE: Help listing a server - KellyR - 11-26-2013

So there is a listkeeper. So when do we get our servers listed? Maybe the 12th of never?

I was very patient. I waited and waiited and waited and waited and waited and waited, ad naseum. I tried to be polite. And I kept being polite for almost 5 months while being itgnored. After 1 month of being ignored it started to grate on my nerves, but I figured they'll get to it. Finally, my anger got the best of me. We all have our breaking point. So how long am I supposed to wait to get listed? While the numeric IP address is dynamic, I do have a static dyn host that is updated whenever the IP changes (doesn't happen often, but it does happen occasionally). I purchased this dyn host with my own money because I love this game so much and wanted to give users an alternate rule set. And what did they do? They pointed the list toward my numeric IP address instead of the DYN host that would connect to the IP, so of course it fell off the list. It seemed as if they wanted that to happen. Maybe actually not, but that's the way it appears.

So when do we get our servers listed, Sir admin?

I'm not a list keeper either, duh. The guy who keeps the list isn't around, as Govedo13 said.
