Phantoms - Good, Bad or Ugly? - Izu Riekon - 01-02-2014 So I notice that no one plays Phantoms here. Why is this? I have been around here longer than my forum account would suggest and I have heard many reasons. The ships/equipment are OP. The lore doesn't make sense. The ID is broken. But none of these things are unrepairable so I keep wondering why no one has picked this up and fixed this broken toy. There is a great system and two bases out there that could be being used. I played for many years on another server and wrote a complete lore rewrite for the Phantoms there, which the community voted in and is still to this day server lore on that server. So I guess my question is "If someone came along and had a really good lore rewrite for the Phantoms to make them playable again, would it be considered?" I should point out that this is original lore, not ripped off any cheese-flavoured sci-fi gimmick stuff. They were created and existed in a previous generation of Disco when things didn't really work the same as they currently do. Their lore, equipment and roleplay aside, the very basic of their gameplay no longer fits the present environment of the mod and the server.
Some things are better left dead, and goin full necro on those has never turned out any good. It was also said by one of admins that they will never return on this server and are part of the mod only becase of other servers using them. I can´t find that admin notice at the moment. Generally, terrorist faction with Sirius-wide ZOI doesn´t sound good. We already have Sirius-wide Pirate ID what is enough. I don´t think that swarm of terrorists raging all over Sirius can bring anything good. Especially when they can shoot everything everywhere without demands or proper roleplay (and factions like this attract especially players who just want to shoot everything and make other people rage). The ID for example has been modified on the other server I play on. They wouldn't be the same Phantoms you have PvP nightmares about and is heavily roleplay-based lorewise. If anyone wants to see the proposal, shoot me a PM or I can post it here on request. RE: Phantoms - Good, Bad or Ugly? - Vipera Berus - 01-02-2014 I personally like the old phantoms - Despite encountering their cruiser and getting obliterated. I had a few cases of running across them where I didn't get destroyed. Personally speaking a little modification to the phantom ID and lore, lets say making the ZOI smaller and a few other changes to bring them in line with the other factions. Still I would like to be able to fly the Umbra/huntress even if I couldn't do much or anything with it. Edit: I got ninja'd on part.
