PS4 / Console rant - feel free to join any way you like - Mímir - 01-25-2014 Hey so I am not really a "PC gamer", I used to play on Amiga, C64, consoles and whatnot, and only got my first semi-decent gaming PC last year so I consider myself fairly unbiased. I was really excited about PS4 and the new Xbox because I was curious to see how they push the envelope, like the two previous generations of consoles did to some extent and frankly I was really disappointed. I've spent the last 2 days playing around with the PS4. The interface of the PS4 is almost identical to that of the 7 year old PS3, there are no real apps to mention (I had thought that apps for youtube and spotify would be available in what is supposed to be a top of the line media platform) and the PSN store now has a few full titles as digital downloads* but they are few and branded as if this is a revolutionary idea when Steam has had a bigger catalogue and better service for a decade now. It is also quite noisy when running heavier games, especially when they are on a disc. What I do like is the better shape and larger size of the new joypad, the way the PS4 records in-game footage and the fact that all the menus and stuff can be brought up now while the game is running in the background, like alt+tabbing on the PC, but all in all the PS4 feels like a partial update to where PC's were about a year ago, with poorer services and less features (where I had read that services and features are the backbone of this generation of consoles). My personal opinion as a pro-console person is that I think Sony should have delivered more value for money, but how is the new xbox and what are your thoughts on this generation of consoles? What games do you think the new Apple console might offer, if rumors are true? *Pro-tip for non-US citizens: Create a user account for the US store and buy cash codes on Amazon so you can purchase on the US PSN store - in my country I get games at half the price compared to my regional PSN store, and the games are still fully available on my primary user account. You can also buy cheap codes for PS3 games like CoD or Assassins Creed and upgrade them via the PSN store for 10 bucks and save a lot of money that way. RE: PS4 / Console rant - feel free to join any way you like - AshHill07 - 01-25-2014 After spending my entire life with Consols I moved to the PC thanks to these. The XBone and the Piss Poor are a perfect example of a consol generation that has litterally no reason to exist, thier basically last gen consols with actual HD instead of the fake stuff before. Lack of backwards compatability is the final nail, why would I buy an XBox One or a PlayStation 4 if the XBox 360 and PlayStation 3 not only have more, better games on them, but are cheaper as well? Also Nintendo's experiment of seeing if anyone would buy a consol with no games on it doesn't seem to have fared too well for them. Turns out people arn't too interested in having to use a fat tablet with a 3 hour battery life as a controler. Although everyone having forgotern about the WiiU being a part of this generation can't have helped any. The new Gran Turismo isn't even out yet. RE: PS4 / Console rant - feel free to join any way you like - Mímir - 01-26-2014 Have you tried the Xbox One? How is it to control the console using the cameras, is it all Minority Report like?
