Freelancer distribution license - MrWeeks - 03-01-2014 Hi community! I'd love to know who currently holds the rights to the freelancer distribution license. We could give this game a "Second wind" so to speak if we could acquire the license and distribute the game as freeware or "abandonware" advocate it on steam or other digital distribution platforms and include the mods like Discovery on the workshop etc. Because while I understand that many people have copies of the game downloaded off the internet without valid licensing, it makes it a lot better playing a game knowing that you haven't "stolen" the software. I'd love if a dev or admin who has been in contact with anybody from the original Freelancer team could post here. Thanks! RE: Freelancer distribution license - Tyler - 03-01-2014 HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. S-Sorry. BBWHAHABAHABAHA... Ok, done laughing, sorry, really. Not to break your spirit here, but Microsoft holds what you request, and they will not release it ever. Many tried, more failed. Don't get me wrong, I'd be friggin' happy if it was public available, but it isn't, and won't. RE: Freelancer distribution license - MrWeeks - 03-01-2014 As much as I am happy that you acquired some comedy from this, but what the hell are Microsoft holding it on to so dearly for? They have made their money, they are not actively retailing it. They are literally sitting on a game that is older than a decade and just keeping the rights... Because. Not so much I found pleasure in my first response, call it a very sad feeling masked after laughter to not let it hurt too much personally. RE: Freelancer distribution license - Mao - 03-01-2014 Send an email and ask them yourself. You wouldn't be the first. Good luck! I would, but I haven't the slightest idea of where or who to contact. I would try microsoft@hotmail.com RE: Freelancer distribution license - Xenosaga - 03-01-2014 Who knows, they might suddenly have the bright idea of making a horrible successor that aims at a completely different audience yet ends up pleasing nobody. It's happened before, although EA is more notorious for it. However, I can seriously imagine a bastardized Freelancer game being released in the wake of Star Citizen/Elite Dangerous to get a piece of the "space game renaissance".
