Buying laptop. Help needed - Avalanche - 03-16-2014 Hey guys, I'm getting a new laptop. I currently have a HP Pavilion dv6 that did everything I wanted it to. It's dying now and it's on pretty much on life support as It's attatched to a monitor, external keyboard and etc etc. I'm getting a new one! My budget I would like to cap at £800 but the less, the better. I'm thinking intel i7 is a must. I'm thinking 6-8GB+ of ram is a must. Optical disk drive is a must. Apart from those factors that to my knowledge are the most key for a fast, nice experience system, I'm unsure what else is needed. I'll be mainly surfing the internet, having lots of files open at once and playing modern games at an enjoyable standard in terms of graphics. Some ideas I've had in terms of purchase. http://www.pcworld.co.uk/gbuk/laptops-netbooks/laptops/laptops/acer-aspire-e1-572-15-6-laptop-21712969-pdt.html http://shop.lenovo.com/gb/en/laptops/ideapad/z-series/z710/ http://www.laptopsdirect.co.uk/Hewlett_Packard_HP_ENVY_TouchSmart_15-j024sa_-_Core_i7_4700MQ_-_2.4_GHz_-_W_F1X66EA/version.asp Any suggestions or insights to help a rookie out? RE: Buying laptop. Help needed - Cashew - 03-16-2014 I don't know about the laptop but whatever you do: Don't get Windows 8... It's the devil honestly I speak from experience. Good luck on finding your next machine!
RE: Buying laptop. Help needed - Sath - 03-16-2014 Yeah, dont go for Windows 8.Still buggy somewhat. Also,a Core i5 with 6/8 ram with a 2gb Graphics card might suffice for most of the gaming, except some games like Farcry 3 and very newish games,at maxed out settings. If you are looking into the future of games like SC,go for a i7 with any higher graphics card. RE: Buying laptop. Help needed - SnakThree - 03-16-2014 Hi Lanche! Miss ya! RE: Buying laptop. Help needed - evanz - 03-16-2014 yes look into getting one with a decent gpu (praphics card), do some research, dont get one just because of cpu and ram, the gfx card i think is more of a priority eg a laptop with 8 gigs and rubbish gpu is worse than a 4 gig laptop with a decent gpu RE: Buying laptop. Help needed - Luke. - 03-16-2014 There's nothing wrong with Windows 8...i'm running it on my PC just fine. RE: Buying laptop. Help needed - Sheaim - 03-16-2014 Windows 8 hates laptops. It's that easy. RE: Buying laptop. Help needed - sindroms - 03-16-2014 As someone, who made this mistake before. Never buy a laptop for gaming. Get a budget laptop for work and being lazy in bed and buy a decent rig. RE: Buying laptop. Help needed - Reid - 03-16-2014 (03-16-2014, 12:59 PM)Red Wrote: Hey guys, I'm getting a new laptop. I've got a Pavilion dv7 and it's top tier laptop for doing whatever I ask it to. I dunno how much mine cost because I got it through a rental company, but it shouldn't be more than $1,000 RE: Buying laptop. I fix countless Pavilion Dv6 & 7s at work all the time, and am also a previous Pavilion Dv series owner. My advice, go with a desktop if you want to do gaming <.< If youre willing to skin the money into an expensive laptop that may will cost just as much to fix, why not get a sure-thing custom build desktop? Food for thought
