An idea - AlphaWolf215 - 04-02-2014 Based on Spazzys thread of things that used to be, I got thinking on the civilian cruiser. Is there any way for this to come back? What I mean is can we have a civilian cruiser, perhaps gained after lengthy RP, much like a (relaxed) SRP, that some people would gain after lengthy time with a freelancer (or other civilian character). The other option I had in mind is some kind of gunboat/cruiser hybrid.. Like a BattleCruiser in theory. The initial idea I had was perhaps 4 cruiser standard turrets (2 fore, 2 aft), then a number of gunboat turrets. These are just some ideas that popped into my head after seeing this previous civilian cruiser. Thoughts, additional ideas, and if possible and Devs and Admins opinions on this ship (class?) RE: An idea - Connor - 04-02-2014 If i've read this correctly, it seems like a possibility that you can bring it back after a lot of RP and if you have the correct ship files, but i don't see how it will be brought back into the game without using it. I mean technically we can say that the Corvo or Fearless could be a Civilian cruiser but obviously under zoner tags 'n such. Also see this. However, the reasoning so far was, that it makes no sense for civilians flying a capital vessel which has to be manned with hundreds of people. Only naval forces should be able to. Or large pirate groups like the Corsairs/Outcasts. RE: An idea - sindroms - 04-02-2014 Though arguably you will have the same IRP limiations as a Zoner cruiser, a. i. not being able to enter or pass through house space. RE: An idea - Haste - 04-02-2014 Civilian Cruisers quite possibly make even less sense than Zoner caps. Capital ships are massive, crewed by dozens or hundreds of military personnel. With that kept in mind, how do the words "Civilian" and "Cruiser" mix? And no, just because rag-tag criminal groups have capital ships doesn't mean that civilians should also have them. Why? Because first of all, those groups shouldn't have them either, but ended up getting them in a time Discovery's development team didn't really give a rat's ass about the roleplay reasoning - or lack thereof - behind ships. Second, those groups are still exactly that: groups. Civilians might technically be a group, but they're more independent entities than anything else. RE: An idea - sindroms - 04-02-2014 Though on the other hand, civilians could also mean non-military groups in general. The fact that they are groups could mean that they could have the funds and the personell to maintain such a ship, but again, I doubt it will be within the interests of any house military to babysit heavily armed ships like that. Would be easier to just make sure they do not enter in the first place. RE: An idea - Haste - 04-02-2014 I'm sure Google, Microsoft and Apple could all afford fighter jets and tanks, but they still rely on the police and military to secure their assets instead. Comparing RL and Discovery Freelancer is a big no-no man! As far I recal cruiser not to size, but to a firepower, there is nothing, what could hold you from constructing gigant space ship. There is just no reason. Liner has enough space to hold more ppl than any cruiser. Well armored liner and well suited escort is enough to travel in house space, being protected from ocasional pirate raids. Yeah, you can make even larger ship for same porpouse, but it will be harder to move it, and defend it. For a deep space exploring, we already have ship, big enough to survive harsh enviroment, small enough, for not being a strike to loose. So in the end, civilian cruiser just has no point to exist. And in Freelancer, there's no police or military in a lot of places, most of the time. If you can afford it and can convince the government, a corporation getting a capital ship is hardly a thing.
