Freelancer ID + Talarca - PliantReality - 08-21-2008

This is related to the gripe I had recently about my pretty little Talarca Light Cruiser. As someone (Zapp maybe?) pointed out, the Talarca is far from an illustrious military machine - hardly capable of the same sorts of heroics of which others in the Cruiser class seem to be apt. I assure you, having attempted to outgun a toasted bagel with it, I am not about to disagree. Don't get me wrong, I love my pretty little Talarca, but I do think it is more comperable to a gunship than a Cruiser.

My question is, should a caveat be added to the Freelancer ID because of this? Granted, this request is most assuredly based in my desire to both have a cake (pretty little Talarca) and eat it too (Freelancer ID).

But let's be honest, as well. It's hardly fair to hand someone a cake and not expect them to want to chomp away at that frosted goodness.

So here's my suggestion. Simply add to the Freelancer ID that it allows the Talarca Light Cruiser. That's about it. Call it a Talarca gunship, otherwise.

Or simply shove me in a failcar and send me off the cliff.

Any reasonable or unreasonable suggestions as to where I could shove my Talarca? Or possibly commentary on the idea presented herein?

i don t like it too much - the talarca is a decent cruiser - none of the best of course. - but there is a reason why the freelancer ID does not allow such big ships. - the freelancer ID gives the player a lot of freedom that other factions do not have - the trade-off is the freedom to fly a bigger warship.

come to that .... a freelancer is usually a loner, too. - a cruiser ( and a gunboat, too ) is a ship that requires a crew - so is the whole crew "freelancing"? ... its a bit of a problem in terms of RP there.

so i wouldn t really support it unless there are some very convincing reasons why a freelancer should fly such a warship.

I think the Talarca suits a freelancer. Invest some credits and stick a couple of robots in it, no need for a crew.

Flying around in the Omicrons, minding your own business in a cruiser sounds nice.

And the Talarca, a warship? Who'd want to fly that thing in wartime? It's sorta like Zoner ships, your speciality, correct me if i'm wrong here. They have thick hull, and guns, but no-one regards them as warships.

I know for me, specifically, the ship is something of an explorer. And I RP it as having a crew of misfits and riffraff - exactly the sort of people who want nothing but to be left to their own devices.

I don't think it inconcievable to have a crew of like-minded fellows to crew a freelancing light cruiser.

I absolutely agree with the issue regarding allowing bigger ships to fellows with no real political boundaries, but that could very well be an RP issue as well. Liberty and to a lesser extent the Rheinland, have placed bans on unaffiliated warships in their space.

Look - The only thing your missing is that your giving ALL of the people with FL id's cruisers.

Petition the admins for something, maybe get a Merc ID if it allows Cruisers...

Freelancer ID + Talarca - Jamez - 08-21-2008

How many 'Light Cruisers' are there? Maybe add that onto FL ID.

Freelancer ID + Talarca - Walker - 08-21-2008

Well Jamez - Light Cruisers are infact "Destroyers"
And it would cause serious unrest over fights of whether that ship is a LIGHT-Cruiser or a Heavy...

Look at the OC Dessie.

Freelancer ID + Talarca - Magoo! - 08-21-2008

Here's a lovely concept.

Don't mix the infocards with IDs.

Battlestar - "A wealthy Freelancer purchased the third."
Talarca - "What a wonderful ship for wealthy Freelancers!"
Huntress - "The Corsairs sometimes sell this ship to wealthy Freelancers."

It just confuses people.

i should add something to what i said...

i wouldn t deny a freelancer any ship point blank. - i can see a freelancer in even a battlestar. if he RPs it ( ingame ) - but i wouldn t like to make it a rule ( put it into the ID ) ... its a very special case, which can be allowed in special cases - dependent on the roleplay of each individual person.

the "common" freelancer though is rather happy with a normal fighter or in welthy cases a gunboat though.

I see where you are coming from Jinx, but I think the original post is highlighting that it is against the rules to have anything larger than a gunboat, ending the roleplay before it ever began.

And Walker, the Talarca is called the 'Talarca Light Cruiser'. The Outcast Destroyer, is not. Do you see what I am getting at now?
