I finally bought a Rheinland bomber, looked like a cool ship. I am not sure I am loading it up right, having problems taking out some NPC ships, particularly Nomads.
Load out:
4 Code Name guns (approx 1400/300 damage, refire rate 2.0)
2 Tizona del Cid turrets
Nova torpedo (have not fired it yet, might be the problem)
Cruise disrupter
Advanced countermeasure
Average mines (could not afford Nova)
Lvl VII armor upgrade
Top HF shields from Primus or Gammu
I have tried going against Liberty Cruisers and Nomads in the Omicron Minor and Alaska systems, really takes some time, shields go down fast. Is there a better weapons load-out? I don't know how I could take on player BS and cruisers without Nova-ing them to death. (BTW: Is it just me but do Nomads seem MUCH easier to kill in Omicron Gamma than in Omicron Delta, Minor and Alaska?)
(Note: I am trying all the ships. Gets very expensive buying and selling ships to try them all out. Cruisers are my favorites for now. Love the manueverability and firepower better than their big cousins the battleships)

Well you need to use the Nova's, and if your trying to kill Capital ships mount 2 of them.
Thing is Ammo is costly.

Ok I have a bomber myself and it is mainly for killing player BS's.
It is equipped with 2 colada del cids, 2 CERBERUS codes, 2 tizzy turrets and duel novas.
It is extreamly good at killing a player BS but due to the 4 shield killers and only 2 hull killers, combined with the fact that fireing novas at NPC's is expensive (so i generaly try avoding it) it also takes some time to kill NPC's.

you dont generally see a lone fighter takeing on a battleship, so yea, it will take time or the heavy nova bombardment, capships are always attacked by wings of fighters or bombers, just hard to do that in Freelancer lol :D

The other alternative, though expensive again, if you are using it against Player BSs.
Mount a pair of Inferno Cannons instead of the Nova torps, and drop the Coladas,
leaving youself the opportunity to mount 4 good Codenames for hull damage. Then
use the Nova mines after the shields are down. Weapons cost are higher but you
save on dual Nova torp ammo outlay. Works for me ... Much easier to take out NPCs
and still have money in the bank.

I must dissagree using nova mines is suicide (looks at gezza going to buy some) the wep load out I have is amazing for killing player BS's and I use ripper mines.

There are lots of different views on this....
If it wasn't so expensive, I would say try out which equipment fits best for you !
all that stuff means nothing, when you're not used to fire missiles, tordedos, do an infight or just keep the distance..
Take a close look on your fighting-behaviour and then think on the weps...
That's best of all...
