a skype xp problem - Snozzz - 06-04-2014 having had numerous pc catastrophies in recent months i have 'sortof' resurrected an old xp pc . i know it will not take Vista, from the old test as was, and am reluctant to break into my still virginal cd of win7 on a likely fruitless cause just to see if im lucky (an immediate non-starter). so figuring out this problem would be a fantastic (benefit to mankind loll) help. i had Skype working fine (back in the day when a twin core @2g was an interesting machine, to non gamers) but now after an update or so it just dies as soon as i try to run it. reformatting and reinstalling etc is not an option for me as i lack the OS disc (and i dont want a dodgy copy).. ive tried downloading various old versions of Skype but to no result. ? RE: a skype xp problem - lIceColon - 06-04-2014 Copies are never "dodgy" if you look in the right places - some notorious unnamed Swedish site might be a good start. If you have an android/ios device, I'd suggest you install skype on your phone and use that for now. RE: a skype xp problem - Arbs - 06-04-2014 Skype doesn't work with Windows XP SP2 or earlier anymore. Try upgrading to SP3 (Service Pack 3) or a newer version of windows. Here's more info on getting Windows XP SP3. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/322389 RE: a skype xp problem - Snozzz - 06-05-2014 Thanks it is XP Home SP3 and fully updated Quote:i know it will not take Vista, from the old test as wasits unlikely i will find good drivers RE: a skype xp problem - Internity - 07-02-2014 If you're still in need of a solution to this problem, I recommend you look for: Skype Version 5.0.0.156 it's 2003-2010 version. I use it on Windows XP SP 2 and it is working without any issues, don't try to update it though. I hope it will work for you as well, good luck! RE: a skype xp problem - Luke. - 07-02-2014 The mobile skype app for PC is always a good shout. Don't even consider Vista. Freelancer will scream and scratch at your face while you try and get it to run on there. Source: Personal experience. |
