It's abundantly clear that something needs to be done about Zoner status in discovery, looking at all the fighting between players here about how they are to be RPed and how not.

The main problem is that many people want to play them for many different reasons, and have widely varying ideas on how this should be done, ideas which are not reconcilable. You could almost say that Zoner player's ideas on zonership are as varied as the variousness of Zoners that the Zoner vanilla lore tells us about Zoners. Another big problem is that people tend to abuse zoner neutrality; zoners by saying they are unpirateable via lore, and non zoners by using freeports as staging grounds for attacks or piracy near house space.

The solution seems rather obvious, and although it has allegedly been discussed in the dev team and rejected for various reasons. I'd like you to think about it again, taking into account all of the things I'm mentioning below.

1. Group activity is what gets a multiplayer server going.

2. Enabling people to realize their own ambitions is what gets them motivated and active.

3. Making it possible for say Freeport 9 to set a faction hostile because they misbehaved, without making all Freeports hostile to that faction, will solve a great deal of problems.

4. With the plugins for editing IDs on individual servers with asci files, the rephack, and numerous now unused bu undeletable quard IDs that you could transform, it should not be too difficult to create multiple Zoner IDs, such as "Freeport 10 Zoner", "Freeport 9 Zoner", "Freeport Playerbase Zoner", "Playername's Dominion Zoner", "Temple of the Nomad-Loving Zoners of Omicron Lost Zoner", "Temporary Autonomous Zoner", where reputations could be adjusted through real diplomacy of the players.

5. With the forum, it should be easy for any faction to entertain RP diplomacy with any faction they want, and declare the rep status towards any faction.

6. With the activity tracker, it should be easy to decide who is busy enough to realistically be awarded an ID and actually make use of it.

7. This could actually re-motivate people who were already sick and tired of every aspect of discovery to try something new.

8. People could try and either succeed or fail their own faction without dragging things into an endless process with the admins, without (too many) allegations of favoritism or abuse. People's success will be decided through their skill in not getting every other player run faction hostile to them, instead of their skill in convincing the admins to do it.

How the individual Zoner ID's could be handled:

Each Freeport-associated ID will be openly buyable on the Freeport. To get a custom ID, a group would first have to show enough activity with a certain tag, using any other ID (staying withing the rules of that ID of course). Once they have the activity, they can "go zoner" and get their own ID. The good part about their own ID is that they can declare hostile anyone they want, on the forum, and admins will adjust the reps. The bad part is that anyone can declare them hostile, and admins will adjust the reps.

Think of the possibilities!

I dont see much indy RP from Zoner side apart from the official factions. Not to forget that the official factions are offering high level of RP indeed.

Why would the Zoners need so many things in game? If you are not good with the current amount of freedom given to Zoners, why not go play other faction chars?

Or, if you are overly attached to Zoner RP, join official factions, they offer a better quality of RP than the random Zoner whales docking in house space and random Nephilims raiding NY.

Apart from that, your post does little more than say "current official factions good", and suggesting that everything else is bad.

Wow, enlighten me with your great Zoner RP then...you.

EDIT: Show me evidence as to "above par" RP by Zoner indys then tell me that they deserve as much dev attention as you are boasting of. Instead, dont just tell everyone to frig off......

At the same time, I can provide you with cute little things as to why the indy Zoners are not so welcome.
