Something about the ''good old OC-CO activity'' that is often forgotten - sindroms - 07-21-2014

Sup.

So you probably know about the ''good old days'', as often mentioned by our own more senior players, or at least people who think themselves old enough to remember those days, when Alpha and Gamma were full of indies and factions alike and how massive OC-Corsair battles would crash the server with their awesomeness.

How now everything is nerfed and dead, because the two forces are too wide apart and how Conn has removed the fun image of OCs sparring next to Malta and so on.

Yeah.

I agree. The two things above are a good reason, but I think someone needs to remind you, the ignorant masses, just why was the OC-Corsair thing such a big....thing.

If you have watched or read my tutorials, you know that if the topic is related to making characters or starting new on Disco in general, one of the first things I mention is to spread out your characters as far as possible.

If that is not an option and you do settle on one zone, then at least make characters on both sides of the lawful scale. Failing to do so will have very bad results.

The reason I tend to go on about that is exactly because of the OC-Corsair situation back in 83-84. It is something most of our vets have either forgotten or don't want to mention. Or just because most of the people involved are long gone.

I'll summarize what I am about to say in one line. - Direct and intentional OORP hate between the two groups.

We, as Outcast indies, were taught to hate the PLAYER behind the corsair ID. Yes. Exactly. We were constantly urged on to take out every corsair player we see. We did not care for the roleplay behind it, all we knew and were taught was that anyone flying a Corsair was a scrub, that needed to be removed from the server. Forcefully.

The official factions at the time would often give the names of TBH alts, so we could specifically hunt them down and do everything to make the players experience as bad as physically possible.

You know how these days you can joke in your LNS group that you should totally switch to your rogue to pirate that one Junker guy at Manhattan? Yeah, if you said something like that in 84 Alpha, but mentioning a corsair, you would instantly be shunned. People would outright ignore you. They would never assist you in PVP, they would not help you with equipment transfers- you could might as well delete the character at that point.

One of the main driving factors in the old OC-Corsair activity, was an expletive OORP hate from both sides. Mind you, it was a time, when having your OC being as the most active character was a big deal. We even had the individual character activity tracker and people would boast how OC faction is the Best faction and would prove that they were the most contributing to the whole place. It was actual oorp pride to play only one faction and devote everything to it.

Now it seems bizarre and people, who do that are considered lolwutts or undesirable members. Zoners are a good example. The average Discovery member also has a much thinner skin these days.

And you know what? It was fun.
It was as if your pvp battles and whatever actually mattered, when you knew that the result was an actual human being stopping playing on the server or have them ''defect'' to your side because they could not handle the heat.

Disco has changed a LOT over the years. This is physically not possible anymore.

Be glad.

This sort of ''Epic Corsair-OC war activity'' is not possible in today's disco.

Zoners are always relevant.

Being devoted to one faction(maybe a pair) is good thing. ooRP hatred is bad thing.

i came into the community back in .85 an there still was such attitude, dunno if equally strong as .84 or less, but rally annoying, time ago they even blamed me for having corsair characters, not long ago someone told me to delete my corsairs... having such attitude in a game, well just i'll not tell what i think exactly, would be unpolite. You can dislike some faction by lore (for example, i don't like OCs as well zoners respective lores), but doen't mean i have right to revile others for playing them.... i had enough of that trash before disco playing certain MMORPG, i remember certain.... reviling the yellow color (and those who weared them) becuse was his enemy alliance main color... and this was a soft example....

ooRP hatred comes from one of these two factions. I played in the old days and the situation now is no different. Two days ago I was flying on my RHA Thor and some corsair writes to me in PM that he is coming for me. I was in Omega 5 and he was in Omicron Kappa... too far to go for one simple harass don't you think? However I read somethings in disco scrolled through my facebook and resumed my game where I saw a tons of PMs. That guys had actually flown 4 systems just to come and insult me and my pride. So he started with leave this system, scum, you are a bad player, get out coward, I think I remember things such as idiot, or it might have been from another conversation. So I started writing to him with a full dose of sarcasm and a slight mocking note towards his intelligence. The thing is Outcast and Corsair indies have ever been the server's lowlifes and you can't change that. The only faction I respect from those 2 houses are the Benitez for their strong RP and tolerance to other players.

And since the Eta path between Alpha and Gamma was cut off, the OCs hate has somehow vanished and the Corsair hate went directly to the Hessian factions and indies.

During my time in Mid-late .85, I never noticed such attitudes towards Outcasts as a Corsair, or Corsairs as an Outcast. In fact, I had a lot of fun. I guess I was lucky. However, such activity is possible even without the ooRP hate. People just need to be willing to put effort in to it.

It was calmed after 4.85

When I first came to disco in 4.84 I was helped out by some cardi smuggler who proved to have his main an Outcast char. He gave to me 10 millions and went with me on smuggling runs, even gave codes to me. Then I got an OC ship and the hatred started. ooRPness in front of Malta was way over 9000 and if you see a corsair, he was a noob and a game killer and no argues to be made there.
