I need help with solo mining - foveros - 08-03-2014
What ship do you suggest I buy if I want to solo mine? Hegemon? Golem? Something else?
Also, which field would be a good place to start and where should I sell what I buy?

Golem can mine prem scrap, scrap, toxic waste and maybe some other generic commodities only.
Hegemon can mine all the ores, but depending on ID, you will have varying bonuses for various ores. Currently, IMG has a stake in majority of the ores.
If you want to mine in Gallia, take a Rock Badger and a GMS ID. You can mine peacefully without any pirate intervention
and at the same time, the surroundings of Gallia are pleasing for mining.Since you want a good place to start mining, get a Kamome with GMG ID, mine He3 in the Okinawa gas clouds and take it to Pittsburg. Go to Pennysylvania, mine Helium in the clouds behind Planet Erie and sell it back in Okinawa. Can be a good profitable route for beginners.

The golem also seems pretty good as it has a huge cargo hold, but is there a good route for scrap or premium scrap as ALG?

ahmmm....I don't think so. Not sure on that part though, never tried it that way.

Or switch to Junker Id and mine Scrap ?
The PoB Tinkers Haven and several others buy Premium Scrap for 4000 Cred in Texas,
and the Junker ID has a very good haul with scrap.
You can join T&T/ and haul your PremScrap yourselfe if you want, or freelance it. You do not have to smuggle to make money with scrap, you know ?
If you want to mine solely Ore, try asking BMF in Manchester :
BMM ID, Hegemon, and a selling price of 4000 Cred for Ore near the field.
