Can a Freelacer behave like a pirate? - Ruud - 08-21-2014 Hello, I was flying in Tau-23 when a Freelancer demanded 2M to pass from the Train I was escorting. According the rules read with the ID a Freelancer cannot do that. Or can he? Second: I held him up so the train could escape to Java Station. As he was a better fighter (or better guns?) I did as well at the end. Was that allowed? IMHO: why should I let my self killed by staying in space. Thank you for any clarification! RE: Can a Freelacer behave like a pirate? - Findarato Veneanar - 08-21-2014 You might want to post a report so that the admins can deal with this person. RE: Can a Freelacer behave like a pirate? - Jack_Henderson - 08-21-2014 Freelancer Ids cannot pirate if they do not have a contract to do so. Normally they don't have that. If you ate pirated by a Freelancer Id, I'd suggest you pm him nicely in green and ask him oorply for his Id and the permission to pirate (or the lack of this permission). If he ignores you, report it as a rule violation. Your docking ofc is inside the rules. However you are pvp-dead. The transport you escorted is not if he docked. Just leave the system and resume escorting in the next system. better wait for the attacker to log off to avoid silly repetitions that would get you into rule trouble for reengaging. RE: Can a Freelacer behave like a pirate? - Binski - 08-21-2014 I always like to add, though it may seem obvious, make sure you do indeed scan a ship and make sure of exactly what its ID is, since a ship's IFF may be different than the ID, and many people make the mistake of assuming they are always the same or supposed to be the same. You will likely come across many pirates with a simple Freelancer IFF. RE: Can a Freelacer behave like a pirate? - Ruud - 08-21-2014 Jack and TheUnforgiven, thank you very much for your answer! I certainly will think of the scanning next time. Zayne, for an escort, becoming a blue message means that you are x systems away from the guy you were playing with. Ofc an escort does not die if it can avoid it because it ends your roleplay and cooperation. I agree with your general statement that "avoiding blue messages in a pewpew game at any cost = wrong", but for the escort it makes sense for game/respawn mechanics and is perfectly understandable. RE: Can a Freelacer behave like a pirate? - Mímir - 08-22-2014 It's a game that is supposed to provide us with unforeseen events and dramatic consequences provided by interaction by other players. Or maybe I got it wrong and it's not really about that at all, and more about attempting to create singleplayer or coop environments in a multiplayer or PVP game. I really don't see what is so bad about handing out a blue, I've done it all my time here. I don't even know how to flee properly, and I get stressed out when I am flying in groups and people go absolutely bonkers over this, telling me not to die, take bots etc. etc. etc. It's a big focus for a lot of players to not let their mates or faction members become blues, and it spoils the fun. What's so bad about getting whacked? There's always some other ship to log or Conn. And if the hand-holding is really *that* important, can't the other guys in the group just change their plans and go somewhere the dead guy can go too? Because "It's okay if my ally and I die, we'll just respawn on the other base" isn't good roleplay. RE: Can a Freelacer behave like a pirate? - Mímir - 08-24-2014 Honestly, if that is the level of realism you choose to adopt for your characters, doesn't this game turn from recreation into something else? I mean, following your line of thought above, you can justify and rationalize a lot of things. Ganking, botfeeding, no/minimal roleplay before pews, excessive piracy demands etc. etc. are all valid if you look at it from the perspective of your character, rather than the perspective of a player. But at the end of the day this is a game we play to have fun, and really it doesn't matter if your pixels get destroyed. Why not think of it like Battlefield 4? Spawn and expect to die, that's what happens in shooter games, and I don't see why Disco should be that different. |
