Pirating Greens??! - Chrystoph - 08-27-2014

I encountered a pirate today who was green (friendly). He did have a pirate ID, but I was under the impression that you could not attack people that are not at least neutral.

Is that a mistaken impression on my part, or did I just run into a rules violation?

More info is available, but I don't want to name until, and unless, I have a ruling that requires it.

Was he green to you? Because there's a difference between what you see him as, and what he sees you as.
Well.. at least when I try to remember how Rep works..

EDIT: Welp, what the others said. I can't seem to make my brain to work properly today.

You can be pirated by a pirate ID. It is the ID that sets rules and not your rep. In your case, you might have had a FL ID/IFF and he would have had a FL IFF.

That is perfectly fine.

No, that is not breaking the rules. IFF is simply NPC relations. It's only against the rules to attack your fellow faction members (going by ID) unless there's a damn good reason.

In my opition, there should be an IFF // faction which would read "Unlawfuls". That would make things simpler in my opinion.

On the other hand it is a neat idea of not knowing if ship that is white to you is either a Freelancer or a Pirate, until you check their ID.

Thank you for the clarification. I misunderstood what factions were in the PvP context.

That being the case, I find myself in violation of the server rules and throw myself on the mercy of the admins. In a fit of pique, because of the above misunderstanding, I logged. I throw myself on the mercy of the court.

Was his name Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwyll-llantysiliogogogoch? <--- psst, I was trialing my own character by forum Smile And also I really hope you copy/pasted the name of that town and didn't know it by heart Smile

Anyways, these things happen. It's confusing, there are pro's and con's to having a generic unlawful IFF. I'm actually all for it, because I constantly keep getting rulebooked by random people in PM's because of my IFF.
