Since we all know its IMPOSSIBLE to actually make your ship invisible to sensors why not have it negate the effect of Scanners? Dropping them down to just the default level?

Maybe make this a bit pricey too, 50M+?

For a cloaking thing? I think it should be well in the hundred mils

250,000,000 Sound correctly priced?

Revised Sensor Jammer. - Horon - 09-12-2008

That would work. Make it use energy?

Or go further than that and make the sensor range of teh affected ships to be 200 or something, instead of default.

That is effectivly a jammer / clock.

"Sir! I'm picking up some weird readings!
"What is it lieutenant?"
"It's... nothing, Sir! Literally.. nothing!"
"... and why is that weird?"
"Because I can see the ship right outside sir!" *points*
*jaws drop as an Osiris passes overhead.*

yeah, make it so it uses energy and costs loads. And maybe has a charging time?

What I'm saying is...

With a Adv. Cargo Scanner you can scan people at 4K Range - But with the jammer that cuts it down to maybe say 2K or something. Whatever the regular FL default was.

He wins, good fight.

Anyway, personally I love the idea of a sensor jammer. I'd imagine it being like, bounty hunter chasing a pirate, pirate using sensor jammer charge, causing the bounty hunter's sensors to subsequently drop from a maximum ship-detection range of 10k to, say, 5k. After which a pirate need only get into a nebula or so to escape.

Question for them modders among us: is it possible to make a piece of equipment that effectively combines this with invisibility of the ship (not on radar, I'm talking visual scanners here - eyes)?

It might be a neat idea (which stewcool's comment gave me actually) to have an extremely expensive piece of equipment capable of cloaking you, as long as you, say, do not use it to get away from a hostile ship.

Anyway, sensor jammer would do quite nicely too of course;)

Truth to be told, any price you designate to piece of equipment or ship will not make it balanced. Even if you put it 800 000 000, you will see its overuse.
