Windows processes - daveystella - 12-18-2014

Hi.
My desktop PC recently dies, and I'm now forced to play on an ACER Aspire laptop, which isnt exactly ideal.
The game can get very choppy at times and, when I checked task manager, I noticed that the the cpu was running at 100%. The only apps open are freelancer companion, disco launchpad, Razer Cortex and, obviously, FL.
when I looked at the processes, I noticed a lot of things running and I cant for the life of me figure out why.
What's a MAPI1.0 repar tool and why do I want it? Windows picture application wizard, Win32 cabinet self extractor, Microsoft directplay helper, DVDupgrd and Microsoft directplay 8 server, to name but a few. Each of these can use up to 20% of the CPU, not to mention a shed load of memory. If I kill the process, it just respawns.

Any helpful suggestions greatly appreciated.

Cheers

What windows and CPU are you using on the pc? I think you are running too many processes.

Assuming you are using Windows 7, I would go to Start > Search: "Programs and Features"

Click it and open up Programs and Features this lists all the programs installed on your computer.

Then start task manager and find out which programs are using most of the CPU.

If they are not important find them on Programs and Features and uninstall them.

You may have lots of adware running on your PC, that you dont know about

It would be easier if you just pasted your process tree here for us to see.

I second this, we could verify whats running visually based on all the process names

Right, Ok, some total and utter idiot (definately not me) decided to disable win32 Cabinet self extractor and now, Disco wont run.

This moron (again, not me, honest), can't remember how he did it. He (whoever he may be), came back from the the pub after 8 pints of cider, did something on the windows "run" menu, ran something.wsg? and set it to disabled.

Twat!

HEEEEEEELLLP.

* daveystella cringes in embarrassment.

Sorry.

Cheers.

try to boot on CD, and repair windows because if i remember the self extractor is very important. but read the others it's just an idea

Ok, this is now getting problematic.
Windows repair won't work, cos there isn't a problem with windows per-se. It's just that the cab self extractor has been disabled.
I just need to know how to re-enable it.
Cheers.

[EDIT]

Ok, progress of sorts.

I can re-enable it with the group policy editor, apparrently. Only problem now, is that when I open it, I can't find that particular part.
