Define: Power Trader - sempai17 - 09-28-2008 I ask this of the community: Please define the term power trader. Is it possible to have a power trader with Good RP? Why or why not? (this question sounds like a short answer question on tests and should be answered as such. Please no flaming. Respond in full sentences.) Also, if this is the wrong place to post this, please have it moved to the flood section. Define: Power Trader - jammi - 09-28-2008 A power trader is a trader who find the most profitable trade route in the game at the detriment of role play. A power trader won't usually respond to other players, and will usually favour death over piracy. In short it is impossible to have a power trader with good RP, because if you RP you are not a power trader. Define: Power Trader - Saigo.Watanabe - 09-28-2008 to add onto what jammi said: also knowing hidden Jh's that the unlawfuls use ( like the chugoku jh?) Define: Power Trader - jammi - 09-28-2008 Good point. Add meta-gaming to the list of stuff we said. Define: Power Trader - SevereTrinity - 09-28-2008 I think you must also own a BHG BC to be classified as a powertrader (But dessie or BS does fine too, if you only have a GS, you fail as a powertrader xD) Define: Power Trader - Primus Avatar - 09-28-2008 i wouldn't go as far and call every BH BC owner a powertrader. a powertrader/powergamer in most games is simply a guy who does a very profitable run. whether he gets money or experience is not the case. A powertrader can be classified as a human money-making-bot. He does something that brings him a lot of money and it doesn't have to be the most profitable run as long as its noob-friendly (aka easy to perform). In most games such "runs" are classified as "farming" and are not allways subject to public discrimination but considered a good factor for low level players However you need to consider that in Discovery RP server we want to see players role-play a trader... not a human money-making-machine. Everyone calling you (i don't actually mean you cause i don't know you that well) a powertrader just because you're doing the Diamond Niobium run is not worth of your attention. If you're able to RP a suicidal greedy "gold rush" trader and all other aspects in-game that allow you to pass trough chugoku than do so, its not against any moral to save up cash for a BH BC if you intend to RP both characters wisely. btw. I found myself unable to RP such a trader so i joined the APM. hope this helps. :) Define: Power Trader - Linkus - 09-28-2008 Power trading does NOT need to be detrimental to RP. It is more commonly defined, outside of Discovery, as simply trading a huge amount etc. IE trading for 5 hours constantly every day would be called power trading. However here in Disco, it has become twisted by OORP influences. So to answer your question. You can power trade and RP well. Define: Power Trader - Primus Avatar - 09-28-2008 ' Wrote:Power trading does NOT need to be detrimental to RP. whether it be RP or some other factor that involves human interaction... its all the same. But you're right. Powertrading is not OoRP unless the guy doing it makes it so. Define: Power Trader - Baltar - 09-28-2008 A Power Trading with no role play will ... ... dock anywhere regardless of whether they are "supposed" to be hostile or not ... take the shortest route from point A to point B (which normally brings them through hostile territory) ... become neutral or friendly to all factions on their route (both lawful and unlawful) ... typically have a Civilian or Trader ID -- most times they never bother to get the Trader ID because they're too cheap ... fly a transport with the largest cargo hold (like the Tanker) ... not make any effort to speak to or otherwise interact with anyone they encounter ... when confronted by a pirate, dock at the closest station -- swap to another power trading vessel -- continue trading till the pirate gives up -- swap back and continue as if nothing happened ... typically has a capship somewhere very close to the roughest part of their route (Bounty Hunter BC setup) -- when pirates come close they swap to their BH BC and "hang out" near where the pirates are patrolling till the pirate leaves -- then carry on with their trading ... have friends who should be pirating traders (like GC or BD) but instead aide their buddy by claiming they are contracted to support the GC or BD -- thus making the pirate scratch his head ... "rather die than pay" ... place 50 mil bounties on a pirate who only asked for 500k -- knowing that no bounty hunter will ever catch the pirate and thus they'd never pay a single credit -- but you get lost of hunters scaring the pirates off ... the list goes on A Power Trader with good role play will ... ... use the same trade run but with a slightly different route -- like avoiding the pirates by using trade lanes ... when confronted by a pirate, usually attempts to haggle the pirate down in price or pay him to carry on ... if traveling through what should be hostile territory, maintains the appropriate reputation -- if he's a Trader ID'd character, he will be red with BD and GC ... actually interacts with others on his route -- may even taunt the pirates ... hires escorts to support him on his route -- too many mercs out there go unemployed because of the negative, non-role playing power traders ... this list can go on as well I think if you consider the actions of the trader as I've listed above you can determine whether the power trader is role playing or not. You CAN be a power trader with role play ... BUT ... there are more non-role playing power traders than role players. Hope this helps Define: Power Trader - Othman - 09-28-2008 If power trading includes using routes that the trader is not even supposed to know, then he is already out of roleplay no matter what he does when he confronts pirates or any other incident on his way. |
