Okay, seriously.
I see this in chats, I see this on the forums, I hear this on TS from people whose options I sometimes pretend to hold in high regard.
But there is no rule that a trader can enter the system after a death for the "sole purpose of trading".
They used to.
In 2009.
How. Who. Who is the bittervet, who is spreading this nonsense in skypechats or in manuals. If you are a trading faction owner, go to your manuals and re-check whether or not that particular line was changed to fit the updated rules. I swear, there is no other explanation why people from 2014 are making this mistake. That particular rule was changed YEARS before they joined our community.
It means that someplace, somewhere there is a manual or a person in a faction which focuses on hoarding newbies who is spreading this stupidity around as we speak.
Please stop.
Also, miners are not traders.

The rule people are confusing is
"3.4 Fleeing from combat and then docking at a station or planet while you are in 10k range of the ship you were fighting counts as PvP death. Freighters and transports in this case may return to the system for the sole purpose of trading." -Link
You can return, but only if you escaped first...alive (that's the key part)
It also doesn't help that some other active servers do allow traders to return after death

The relevant rule:

I presume that the persons in question applied "in this case" to the PvP death instead of the docking in 10k range of the ship you were fighting.
It might be better to improve the wording a bit to eliminate these misconceptions.
The following change could make the rule clearer:
Freighters and transports that docked in the above scenario may return to the system for the sole purpose of trading.

Personally I view the rule as more of a benefit to smugglers. I can't tell you the number of times I've been chased by someone that's just a hair outside of scanning rage, my best option generally is to dock on a nearby station and wait for the pilot to leave the local area, allowing me to undock and continue with my run.

Because traders are behind a rule-wall and protected out of all sides as it is.
