Mine Layers - X-Lancer - 10-23-2008 Mine Layers..5 Mine Slots.. can use: Mobile Mines we have now then we should add Passive Mine..like the real mine..it doesnt ran into target..it lets target go near it then BOOM..we got a ambush there.. then we can also can develope C4 mine..huge damage+big blast radius. only thing is..you have to blow them up by shooting a CD or whatever on them..yes..we got a perfect abush there again.. yes..it's pretty much a RP ship..but it's useful at fleet combats... Mine Layers - Tenacity - 10-23-2008 [quote] then we can also can develope C4 mine..huge damage+big blast radius. only thing is..you have to blow them up by shooting a CD or whatever on them..yes..we got a perfect abush there again/quote] Dude, we have NUCLEAR mines, C4 would be a significant downgrade in explosive firepower. Mine Layers - Emon - 10-23-2008 Abuse at Jumpgates, Jump holes, and trade lane exits. Also, how long would the mines last? 10 minutes, until you leave the area? I'm not completely opposed to the idea, in fact I think it would be kinda cool, but I think that the chokepoints on the map would become minefields overnight. Furthermore, how would the pvp rules apply? If a level <30 happens to run into your minefield, pvp sanction? Maybe you didnt set the trap for him, but you still killed him. Overall - Fun idea, but impractical. Mine Layers - MrCynical - 10-24-2008 Maybe make them time-delayed for something like 20 seconds to prevent buildups of huge minefields and the corresponding ion storms? Maybe even make the "mine layer" a fast, lightly-armoured version of a gunboat that has minimal guns (torp slot maybe), and limited armour, but is quite fast (like a real minesweeper). Then suddenly all those BCs have more to worry about than the bombers whizzing around. As far as rules go, just don't sanction unless you actually targeted the <30 (like dropping them all in front of him). I actually see less of a potential rules problem with this than existing mines Mine Layers - Zero755 - 10-24-2008 I dont think it would work well simply because to be of any use in a cap fight you would have to uber size the mine damage which leads to the fighter and bomber pilots complaining because they get eaten by one mine. As stated before, fun idea but not too practical. Mine Layers - Camtheman Of Freelancer4Ever - 10-24-2008 Is it even possible in freelancer? I think things in freelancer like projectiles only last a small amount of time... Mine Layers - guitarguy - 11-02-2008 I think it could work as long as nobody abuses the system. To do this there would have to be very firm rules like... 1) Mines cannot be within 5K of Jump Gates or Jump Holes. 2) Mines cannot completely seal off any base, planet, ect. As for the mine sweeper/layer ship, there could be a large (roughly the size of a cruiser), heavily armored but lightly armed mine layer. I could have about six class 9 turrets and a special mine slot. Then there could be a gunboat-sized mine sweeper that is also lightly armed and heavily armored. It would have a special forward gun that could shoot mines to disable them. I'm assuming the mines being placed are like the Zone-21 mines, invincible unless you get run into them. In this case the special gun would be the only gun that could stop the mines. Mine Layers - chovynz - 11-02-2008 I love the idea and think the player "rules" come up with, shouldn't be there. If you add more rules you restrict possible roleplay. Instead of making more "rules" from the outset, try it a few times and come up with a counter tactic. Rules from the beginning tend to be overlooking something or taking one point of view. Also, to counter "chokepoints would become minefields overnight" it would at the beginning of having the mine-layer ability, however it would become pretty obvious that it would be an expensive thing if there is no one around. There are ways around the chokepoints, in fact it's very difficult for you to choke a specific point in this game at the mo. Can you give specific examples of the chokepoints you mean? I think players need to be given space to be able to come up with creative ways of using them - including those things you guys have said (if a minelayer gets implemented that is). It is every person responsibility to ensure their own ship safety. If you fly into a minefield its your own repair bill. Figure out ways of countering those minefields. Mine Layers - guitarguy - 11-03-2008 You have some good points about RP and player creativity with minefields, and I agree with you when you said "It is every person's responsibility to ensure their own ship safety. If you fly into a minefield its your own repair bill. Figure out ways of countering those minefields." However, I don't think it would be fun to undock with a base or jump gate and have a minefield 1/4K away from you or have one or two of the three entrances to the Nomad worlds blocked. Again, as long as they're not abused, minefields could offer a cool new element to Discovery. Mine Layers - Camtheman Of Freelancer4Ever - 11-03-2008 yeah, Stationary mines, that last mabey 10 minutes, but none should last forever. |
