A possible work-around for a space bike - Unlucky_Soul - 02-11-2016

A continuation from this thread and after looking at the problems in implementing it, i have tried a possible workaround for the pilot hard point problem.

The Pilot Hard point sits on the model as shown. I used an old motorcycle model of mine and worked on it to give it a space feel.

This is with the pillion rider workaround.

Would this work?

P.S To the AFC....... i know you guys will WANT this Smile

It looks like you worked around it quite well.
But I don't really see how this would fit into discovery. Or is this just a project for fun?

Both fun and a possible look into implementing it in disco. I am an avid biker in RL and i often model bikes. I decided to merge my RL passion with disco and this is what came up Big Grin

Frankly, return to the older version, remove the pilot, fill the upper part into something like cockpit and it could be a quite nice AI-controlled scouting pod. Something faster than LF, but unarmed.

IMHO something that small won't pass as human controlled thing, but if it's controlled by program, computer or just by human on other ship? Kinda good scouting pod. Something like smaller, unarmed Liberator, with enough space only to mount cockpit, engine and needed cooling

A space craft that constantly exposes its pilot to open space?

Pretty sure light fighers are as close as you are going to get.

Never heared of space suits right ? And by all means, not the real life huge ones ...
Personally, just because there is nothing like this YET , I don't see the difficulty, since after all, Freelancer is all about space and people RP flying in space all day . I doubt they are doing it in shorts, just cause the original game models didn't have any space suits put on them.

For refference : 1

the only thing that could be problematic is getting shot by anything while riding one of these Big Grin

Or simply hit by a small rock floating in space Wink

I cant even see the model since im on my phone but I love it as a concept so much. The idea of getting out of the cockpit and just being in your suite and in space on a bike is so cool and id be flying this thing 100% for AFC in a blink.

Added that you are a bike modeler and all that.... <3

I want it. I'll sponsor it as well if you need funding <3

Edit: the point is you. DONT . Get shot. You gotta dodge rocks as well. The Sheila in freelancer is a good enough reason to say it will diflect a portion of damage on you. If your Sheila is down though then you are exposed.. That is part of the fun!

Also this is a sci-fi game so... Yeah... Be open Big Grin

Don't forget about the intro where it was people in space suits/armor fighting each other in the open on asteroids, so I don't see why they can't have an open ship. Adds to the danger factor.

that could be evaded by adding a small windshield kind of thing like over here :

Also, like ships do , this is suppose to have a "shield bubble" around it , which would serve the same purpose, as otherwise I doubt a light fighter fe. could sustain the same thing. ( getting hit by random space rocks .

It could also have ridiculously low hit points and maybe a freighter shield to compensate that, so if the shield goes down, you're practically dead already Big Grin
