Docking ring weaponry - Durandal - 02-29-2016

Yep, the thread everyone has been waiting for is finally here. The balance devs have voted and our preferred option is to remove all weaponry from docking rings entirely, we believe it is detrimental to gameplay, does not promote lawfuls logging to defend their territory, and encourages bases hugging. @Teerin has requested that we gather community feedback on the changes we're considering, which are as follows.

Option A: Keep things as is. This is my least favorite option, as the current missiles are horrendously overpowered and heavily discourage both pvp and rp interactions around planets between lawful and hostile groups. This isn't a problem when both groups agree to move away from said planet, but that's something which rarely occurs.

Option B: Replace the missiles with mortars. This should discourage capital ships within the vicinity of planets and wouldn't work well for people sitting still trying to RP nearby. The balance team believes that all incursions into lawful airspace regardless of shipclass should be responded to by actual players. I'd take this over option A any day, but it's still not preferably to full removal in my opinion.

Option C: Replace missiles with another type of gun. This would still deter hostile warships, but to an even lesser degree.

Option D: Remove docking ring weaponry completely. My most preferred option and more or less self explanatory. Keeps interactions totally between players, with the exception of the capital patrols which already roam around the area..

Option E: Got a better idea on how to handle the situation? Post it here!

I suggest a poll.

TIL there is a god. I vote D fully and am so happy that the devs are finally looking at fixing this problem.

Annnnd since @Teerin ninja'd the thread my vote got screwed up, just know that I voted for option D.

There should be no RP between lawful and hostile groups within the range of capital planet missiles anyway. I vote A.

This is how your ''interaction'' worked in 2009, when there were no such things as base defenses.

People should also keep in mind that Cap Patrols also spawn in the vicinity of Planets, so there's still a means to keep hostile Capitals away.

I believe Pulse cannons are sufficient for deterring hostile warships, as losing shields can sway a battle, but on a large enough scale, does not truly determine the outcome. I don't think they should be battleship pulses either, perhaps gunboat class.

But there is nothing spawning when the server already ran the whole day and/or there is a lot of players online.

D. 'Bout time.

That is all.

Even more of a reason why the players should get off their bums and clean out the hostiles themselves then.
