Is shooting CD's at a cloaked ship considered exploiting? - DragonRider - 03-27-2016

Is shooting CD's at a cloaked ship, in order to locate it, considered exploiting?
Considering that "missiles tracking cloaked ships" is not a feature, but more of a engine limitation that can not be "fixed".

Quote:6. Following actions are considered cheating on server:

Using non-Discovery mods, as well as using modifications that improve stats of items and ships.
Changing account information and using any kinds of software that changes normal gameplay.
Using any equipment not included for sale/looting in Discovery mod.
Using equipment that exceeds ship specs.
Cloning, e.g. creating new characters to collect starting money.
Single player having more than one instance of Discovery open to fly their own characters.
Suicide Trading.
Disabling vSync to gain a framerate of 160 or higher.
Abusing Game Exploits

And to attempt to prevent a massive thread derail:
inb4
-no I'm not upset because I couldn't cloak away from a fight
-yes I know how to avoid getting CD'd while cloaked
-no don't tell me how to use cloaks
-no don't tell me I shouldn't use cloaks to run from fights
-no I'm not interested in a cloak discussion thread
-no I'm still not upset
-yes I might have opened a similar topic before, I don't remember

EDIT: I meant "rule 6" on the poll

My vote goes for yes. However, it could be problematic because of a bug when player can see another cloaked ship. It sometimes happens after all.

Also cloaks are OP in case of Mk2 and Mk2Adv ones, fighter one is mostly useless due to its short cloaked period. However, it's sometimes good to run away.

It could be an exploit, but I'm not totally sure.

In any case, the player firing the CD's in question would have to know -or- have an idea that a cloaked ship is nearby in order to be firing them in the first place, PLUS ammunition limits for CD's and the relatively high cost involved for the most effective CD to use for this tactic.....

Most* players just plain old can't afford to spam enough CD's for it to be worthwhile.

The only people who can really say if this is indeed an 'exploit', would be the admin/mods -or- a general yes/no vote, similar to this could be made by the Admin Group to find out the community opinion on this topic.

I personally have never seen a ship cloak/decloak except for when they were being tested in game initially by the admin/game devs.

Note: As I'm not sure and there isn't an option for it, I haven't voted, just posted my opinion.
Note*: It's ok if you don't have the same opinion as me, I don't mind at all. :p

First time I hear that this even could be "illegal".

RE: Is shooting CD's at a cloaked ship considered exploiting? - SnakThree - 03-27-2016

Pretty sure there was a sanction or admin statement against this exploit.

RE: Is shooting CD's at a cloaked ship considered exploiting? - Venkman - 03-27-2016

I don't consider it as an exploit.
If you think this should be "illegal" then fix the cds I guess. Until then... CD all you want.

My opinion.

CD - means Cruise- not Cloak Disruptor. I think its as using as an exploid cause Cruise-Disruptors are not intend to be Cloak Disrupters. Furthermore whats the sense of a Cloak Disrupter, when an cheaper CD does the same?

I think that if the cloak charging inside a jump gate or hole was illegal then this should be too.

@Snak3 I'm surprised someone got sanctioned specifically for that because people do it all the time ever since cloaks came out and none of them ever got sanctioned. It's not supposed to be a feature but you won't get slapped for it either, especially now since cding someone who cloaked isn't as useful as before because of cloaking batteries making cloaks last much longer.

I vote yes.
