Regarding the rules thread layout - sindroms - 05-09-2016 Hey. First of all, please fix the top navigation bar so the Server Rules pop nicely against the background and surrounding forum elements. I am proposing this change for the third time, now that I had the chance to observe three newbies trying to get around our server rules. Simply put, yes, our rules as they are right now are very self-explanatory. But only as long as you have played Discovery. Instead we send completely new players to read that legal document wannabe even before they install the mod. In other words, it seems that even though the rules themselves are simple and easy to read, they remain hard to understand without having been ingame and having context as to what is being described, new players seem to have problems getting their head around a good chunk, albeit not all of them. A good example is the rules regarding metagaming and powergaming. Yes, if you are roleplayer, you know what is metagaming and godmodding. We even have description under an asterisk. But the rule is not presented within the needed context. The context of metagaming and powergaming in a chat or forum roleplay is easier to understand, but in a game environment it is different. I propose taking the asterisk explanations to all rules and to a different level: by adding a spoiler collapsible below each rule section in order to explain their intent via ingame context. For example: Quote: Then apply this sort of explanations for all rules that need them. Basically, I am saying that first time readers need a bit of information along with the rules to understand why they are there and why they are necessary in the first place. RE: Regarding the rules thread layout - sasapinjic - 05-09-2016 So , you are saying , we need Johny Walker back in Pennsylvania to explain all those things to newbies , since it may pass a loooong time until finally some newbie-friendly guide is done ? RE: Regarding the rules thread layout - sindroms - 05-09-2016 (05-09-2016, 09:43 AM)sasapinjic Wrote: So , you are saying , we need Johny Walker back in Pennsylvania to explain all those things to newbies , since it may pass a loooong time until finally some newbie-friendly guide is done ? What? RE: Regarding the rules thread layout - sasapinjic - 05-09-2016 Let me re-fraze that : Until people start whining on Johny Walker methods of introducing game to newbies and forced him to give up teaching newbies , all those complicated rules were explained in game relatively easy . It is now obvious that all those angels cant do 1/2 of Johny work . Thanks for the compliment We also have lives, we cant be online all the time explaining stuff to people. Aswell as we also RP with other people. RE: Regarding the rules thread layout - sindroms - 05-09-2016 What does this thread have to do with that guy? If you want to discuss it, he made at least two threads about it. Stick to the topic at hand, please. A video tutorial regarding "How to survive in Disco 101" is coming. we're often at pennsylvania or in the helium field, to help out new guys and giving some cash for ships, equipment - or filling up ships with our miners. And yeah, the most guys are not roleplaying.... Greetings Isambard Kingdom Brunel. RE: Regarding the rules thread layout - Hannibal - 05-09-2016 its a good idea to give an example for each rules, but then you will probably have to explain each scenario that rule can apply to because you will have to deal with a group of people that may think the rule will only apply to that specific scenario |
