Discovery 4.87 & Win 10 - red devil - 05-29-2016
I have asked this before somewhere, and also asked Microsoft and got zero replies. I have been running Discovery and upgrades since day one, always on a virgin install of Freelancer. I have an pc now Intel 7i quad core with 16GB ram, hybrid C Dive and sata add on drives. I have an ATI R9 380 graphics card, and also an ATI graphics card on my win 10 laptop. Disc 487 runs on my laptop, but I cant get it to run on my pc anymore.

If anyone can get my disc 487 running again I will donate $20 to the funds. Is there something above which may force an none start. I have also noticed when trying to open Freelancer on its own I keep getting a please open this in administrator - I AM the admin!! When i open discv 487, I get the splash screen then it goes off and nothing; When I open Freelancer I get nothing at all. Finally I cant get Disc 487 to open full screen in my laptop.

But...we haven't been running 4.87 for a year or so now, dude.
Take a glance at the mod download page and re-read all of the information there not only about installing the mod but also the NET version and other little things regarding the subject.

* re-enable DirectPlay (ref: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6XYyGB-Tn3g)
* disable AVG, or uninstall it. (AVG is very bad, you got MSE with Win 10+ (Microsoft Security Essentials), don't need AVG anymore)
* Update your Graphics Driver (either via Device Manager, manufacturer site or whatever, just update it)
* Unless you have Visual Studio installed install: http://www.chip.de/downloads/All-in-One-Runtimes_37449838.html , it's german but anyways these are just runtimes
* uninstall discovery
* run a tool similar to ccleaner
* restart PC
* reinstall freelancer
* if you aren't bored enough restart PC then install Discovery to another drive then C:\
tl;dr: Your problem mainly goes down to installing Discovery in the drive C:\ (and the launcher... which we unfortunately can't deny)

I played 487 because I liked it, not because of any 'age' thing. Thanks for the link.

printed this off, will be going through it soonest. Freelancer and 487 already uninstalled but will run your ideas.

rebirth: followed your list and nothing, cant get past splash screen.
direct play was already enabled
graphics card was already up to date
installed from the link - visuals
restarted pc
installed FL
installed Disc 487 on different drive
nothing

I decided to try running the basic freelancer original, and set up accordingly. When I click on the icon I get this:
