Another thread about multi-boxing - Sandloon - 06-11-2016 So, since played count is so low and we're trying to drum up activity, is there any way that multi-boxing can be looked at again? All the other servers I've played on allowed it and, when they were still alive, not much drama came from it if any. It's another way to boost the player count, more players usually invite more players and more activity invites more interaction. Say if I'm stopped by a set of two bombers who are friends, and I'm multi-boxing two 5k trains, I can't split them up at this point and need to try and RP my way out of it. Even if it was just one bomber/fighter/pirate splitting the ships and running still guarantees a loss for me, you're at a much weakened state when you multi-box because it is honestly hard to control more than one ship, but for trading it allows people such as myself, who got into accidents and weren't able to save their ships a way to come back easier. Anyways, your thoughts and opinions? Please no flaming. RE: Another thread about multi-boxing - Sombs - 06-11-2016 A player that plays multiple chars at the same time is still only one player. And this server is already the biggest server to this mod, so does it matter if there are ten characters more ingame than usual? Artificial increase of the player count, and the risk of abusing it is too high. Suddenly, a player that would take 10 runs to make the money he needs would only take 5 or less runs, what would decrease the chances of encounters. RE: Another thread about multi-boxing - Sandloon - 06-11-2016 Yes, and making a played take 10 runs to do a task where there is no interaction because of low player count means he gets bored to death. Honestly still not sure why everyone always says the economy of a dying game is broken, nerfing the economy won't bring people back. But telling the one person a month we might get that they have to grind for 10 hours to get a base cap ship will make that person leave. Not sure why anyone has a problem with multi-logging anymore honestly, the game is dying and any kind of simulated inflation that attracts attention should be viewed as a good thing. Yeah, it cuts the amount of trips you have to do in half, but it also means that during those encounters you might have you HAVE to come to an agreement with the pirate or police and not just remain silent and run away, or you'll die twice. Again, having experience with lower pop servers and multi-boxing there really is no harm that comes from it. But change is bad I suppose. Take all the time you need to imagine the possible exploits as I am not going to list them here. RE: Another thread about multi-boxing - Sombs - 06-11-2016 Uhm, the game is about ten years old, we're playing with a mod on an RP server, and still we have about 100 players per day. I don't think that's something we can call "dying". Not to speak about the many players that are forumlancing to give their RP a bit more substance. Why should a person leave because the price for a capship is reallistically high? There are already enough caps in Liberty that show people are willing to work for that. Some people need something to work for. Took me about one and a half month of trading and roleplay to have my Mako equipped with everything it needs. I had fun to do so. Aside from that, the difference from this server to all the other servers with few to zero players is: We have a lot people that just can't wait to abuse anything possible for their fun. I think most people are missing the good times with 200 people all the time around, but 100 people at peek times aren't that bad as well. But that's just one opinion. I don't think artificially pushing the player numbers won't attract more people. The guys that know the server won't fall for that trick, since it means it's still only one person to deal with, and a certain group of people will just enjoy to torpedo the hell out of them, what will just cause more QQ. I think we still have enoug QQ per day here, with just 100 players per day. So? what's the difference of pirating or gate camping multiple sectors and just quick relogging to a different character? I'm playing on a miner right now, with 17 other people on the server. Hoping that someone will try to stop me from taking this load to the destination but it's doubtful. Wouldn't make a difference if I had two trains running either, but at least it would slow me down and make it so that I can't just run away easily. The point I'm getting at is that with the current rule setups we have, the population count and activity, it doesn't really matter if people are multi-boxing or not. You really want to see silent 10-man convoys? And yes, pirating. Pirating with a TLAGSNET enabled LPI character on the other screen. It is still an unfair oorp advantage - thus cheating. Get over yourself, insulting the game itself is not going to help your cause or your justification. Too many loopholes with it, and it takes away from the roleplay aspect of the server. This is a ROLEPLAY server, however small it may be. Multi-boxing does not promote RP, it detracts from it. |
