pirate typical ships - joojoo1975 - 11-30-2008

I'll prolly get flamed for this, but here goes.

All i see of pirate players, they are either in a gunboat, VHF, or a bomber. Are there any pirates players that do not fly one of these?

here's my questions. If you do fly one of these, why? I'm not tryin to piss on ya's parade, i'm tryin to see the reasoning on flyin these ships. From my understanding most police ships are not in any of these. am i mistaken? i mean i know my ID(Liberty police ID) allows me to fly capital ships, but I fly a liberator(lf) could you help me out here.

thanx.

(i htink since i been here, i've seen only 2 players in pirate light fighters(an outcast dagger in texas, and a rouge bloodhound in ney york)

but i only been here for a mounth roughly

well, there are actually a good bunch of pirates flying the dreadanught/battleships of their faction freely... you just dont see them often because you are always in Liberty I guess.

I was once attacked by a light fighter in my Border Worlds Transport. I obliterated the light fighter without using any shield batteries.

That'd be why most pirates don't use light fighters - it just doesn't work for piracy. Now, I do see Outcasts in them (I am one, Scimitar and Loki), but those are never the actual pirates, they're the ones who focus on fighting Corsairs and CR.

Most pirates these days fly bombers or gunboats, because they're the only ships (or the only ships allowed to pirate with) with a decent chance of taking down a 100k shield transport ship without backup.

accually yes I have a Blood Dragon Cruiser.

pirates in battleships? eee gads

i guess i just don't understand.

can somebody give me a deffination of a pirate in disco.?

to me, pirate characters were all about one thing. . . Money. and considering you cannot ransom in capital ships, i just don't see the point.

"6.19 Pirates have a right to deal as much damage as they see fit before or after demanding money from a trader ship, but killing trader ship before demanding money or cargo is not allowed.

6.20 Attacking traders or demanding cargo is not allowed for cruisers and battleships, unless cruisers and battleship belong to Terrorist ID or Phantom ID owner."

so how do pirates RP that? (sigh)

btw i'm primarilly talkin about player interaction, not NPC interaction

Members of pirate factions occasionally fly cruisers and battleships to beat up on lawfuls or enemy pirate factions, but they can't pirate traders in anything larger than a gunboat. Period. Capital ships are use for war, and war alone.

??? don't you think bombers or gunboats are a tad bit on the overkill side?

cerb. gunboat turret -- shield 1425 -- -- hull 725 -- refire rate 4.00 -- energy cons. 14000

now a lib rouge gb has 6 turrets. i'm assuming that you can fire all 6 in at least 1 direction. so lets break this down

6 guns firing = 84k of power(rouge gunboat Power Output: 500,000 Power Recharge Rate: 65,000)

max shield dmg for 1 volly from 6 shots = 8550 (that's over 8% shield for 1 volly)
max armor dmg for 1 volly from 6 shots = 4350 (that's around 3% on an advanced train) not accounting armor upgrades.

Come on guys that's a lil overkill don't ya think? I've been in transports most of my gaming time(with the adv civi shield from leeds) and the gunboats kill me in No time. I ain't even gonna coment on a bomber,

post your rouge gunboat turrets, as well as your rouge missle turrets, i seriously think this is overkill.

what do you think?

And thankyou for the replies folks

pirate typical ships - Thexare - 11-30-2008

You're not going to comment on bombers? Ok, I will. I've chased two off, one (Praetorian) without any help, the other (Falcata) only helped by other transports. I've killed VHFs and LFs alone.

And the Border Worlds Transport, much as I love it, is not all that well-armed. Four front turrets, five rear. The Pirate Transport has I believe 7 forward-firing turrets.

I'm telling you, there's a damn good reason pirates use these heavier ships.

By the way, you neglected to consider the regeneration rate of a transport shield, the fact that they're firing back at 1800dps (I think) per turret usually not draining as much power as they regen, and the fact that transport turrets have a very high projectile speed - a bad thing for a fighter to deal with.

pirate typical ships - Drake - 11-30-2008

Some transports, especially if they're using high-powered fighter turrets and they catch the pirate off guard, can take down a gunboat if piloted well (and the gunboat isn't, usually).

But most pirates I've seen actually pirating (rather than just fighting lawfuls) seem to use bombers. Some use gunboats, but not the majority.
