Official Factions flying Untagged Ships - Discussion - Shaggy - 11-01-2016
Hello community, after months of noticing many factions whom are official start flying ships that are untagged but flying with the official faction ID. It has come to discussion on a few skype chats about if this is violating server rules, if it is an unwritten rule and so fourth.
I personally went to one admin yesterday afternoon to be told that JM|- and LH~ do this, but there are also talks about A/) and a few other factions also doing this to keep there characters under cover or hidden. But then I started speaking to a group of people in one of the factions I am apart of and this one person went to another admin and was told something completely different.
From here I would just like to get the communities point of view, opinions and thoughts on this...
1) Should official factions be allowed to fly untagged/detagged ships while continuing to use the Official Faction ID
2) Should Official factions be forced to use the faction tag at all times while using the Official Faction ID
Please start speaking about this in a friendly manner, not only this hopefully it will come to the Admins to take up the discussion to make a written and clear rule about this so it is understood by all, not just those who wish it to be allowed.

It is allowed to be done. But not the opposite which is using tag with indie ID.

Basically what shooter said, it is allowed. Faction membership is determine by ID, you cannot wear official faction tag without official faction ID.

IMO it should be necessary both to wear ID and tag. Simplier, easier and clarified. Withno any misunderstandings
As simple as that: You want the extra stuff from your faction ID - then wear it's tag too.

I don't necessarily agree with this.
There is a slight problem I've faced, especially in police factions. When ever I log on for the RFP for example, and check the TLAGS, I'll see people take exit a lane....then dock on the nearest station and log off.
It sucks, because it means that the majority of RP I get to do, is just 'Halt Terrorist Scum!' respond to by a 'Nah. Now Die for the Revolution' Where as on my Police indie, using just a normal name, I was able to catch people unawares far easier.
The way I see it, forcing an Official Faction to use it's tag can be both a benefit and a curse. The Benefit being that it forces others to do the same. The Downside, is that it means everyone knows you're coming way ahead of time, especially indies.

Pretty sure the consensus on that is that you are allowed to fly an official ID without a tag but you don't get online time tracking so you can't contribute to the faction's online time requirement.
It's a pretty ok system in my book.

I was recently told by an admin that flying with the ID and without tag is not allowed, I guess the question is not really necessary according to that.

Let people keep their freedom. If you desperately want to know if a character is part of a faction, then get an Adv. Cargo Scanner to know earlier. Aside from that, nothing prevents people from having a character using different ships with different IDs. It definitely should stay this way. Not everything needs to be changed because people get butthurt from people that are actually a bit clever when it comes to the fact people using the player list to actively go for them. Some people simply don't want it. Don't force it.

I personally keep one or two ships untagged for good reason these days. Take this example that happened previously.
>Log on official tagged ship 1 in System B, move to system A
>Exactly two minutes later, Officall tagged ship 2 logs on in System C
>Half a minute later, Faction 2 ship enters System A
>After a minute, Faction 2 ship finds faction 1 ship
>Faction 2 ship engages Faction 1 ship with superior weaponry(in this example, a Gunboat v Light Fighter).
>Two hours later, on Faction 2 Bounty Forums, Faction 2 ship demands the bounty payment for the Faction 1 ship, as well as the bonus for the ship being officially tagged. Faction 2 ship profits while Faction 1 ship has to deal with ruined RP and more frustration in the game.
>Next time Faction 1 ship enters game, it has to hide well above/below(200k at one point) to dissuade Faction 2 from coming into System A again for more easy money.
The faction tag is more of a target sign for people like bounty hunters(and general trolls(im looking at you too)) so it should be allowable to keep it off, else no one would join an official faction.
