I live in Colorado, which has caused a little annoyance for me when I see Xenos peel out of the Silverton Asteroid Field. You see, I don't like how Xenos are viewed right now. They are illiterate "Yeeeeehawwww"ers, instead of Illiterate Grumpy mountain men. Colorado, the State, has this very interesting attitude. The Rednecks of the Real Colorado Behave more like Sarah Palin without the accent, instead of George Bush. Considering the fact that most Xenos who are attacking Manhattan are from Colorado, they shouldn't be viewed like Southern Rednecks. If they are Rednecky at all, they should be viewed more along the lines of Mountain Rednecks.

So remember, if you are Playing Xenos from Colorado, think similar to Sarah Palin. If you are playing Xenos from Texas, think George Bush. Or ignore me, since it is your RP.

Shouldn't Sarah Palin be a Nomad, being from Alaska?

thats where the geographic ignorance steps in - for those that are not too familiar with the USA, like me being from most northern europe...

what exactly is the difference between those? - for me - the USA can roughly be separated into 3 parts only. - the north-east ( new england etc. ) - the midwest and the westcoast. - i guess what you describe as rednecks would fall into the "midwest" category, but i guess that my understanding is of course not even close to detailed enough.

by the way .... are there "really" ( i mean.. really in real life ) people that say "yeehaa", have a gun on their backseat and have like no sense of fashion like the stereotype "red-neck"? or is that only made up by the media. ( never been to the midwest - only to boston... and the people there are pretty much the very same you can find in any european city )

if there are no "real life" red-necks anyway... its all fiction and i guess can be made up anyway one likes it to be.

Howdy!

For the most part the only person really laying in the "hick" would be our own Sidewinder, aka Jihad Joe. Yeeeeeehaw and the uttering thereof is more of a battlecry than anything else.

As to the somewhat 'localized' speach that we oft sling in system the common excuse that I've employed is that it's a form of acquired dialect that we've adopted as a sort of cultural mark from the indoctrination period most every Xeno experiences during a term on Houston or the Wall, doing soft or hard time.

In other words, you might be just another working bubba from Cali Minor who got thrown in the clink by the LPI during a protest over another factory handing everyone the V and a pink slip, but by the time you walk out of a Texas sweatshop and grab your gun to join the cause there's going to be a "hey howdy fella" or two sitting in your vocabulary.

Some of our membership employ it to greater or lesser degrees, Del's character (having no prison background) employs a more 'common' dialect whereas I throw out plenty of y'alls and such.

That being said, I'm wasting my time here as Blunt already won this thread.

Lets remember that the xeno movement started on Pittsburgh and Houston. My xeno for instance (XA-Sidewinder) is from planet Houston. A Texan man. Now there are rather a lot too many yeehawing redneck xenos and not quite enough of the educated variety.

My xeno for instance my be uneducated and rustic in his ways, but he's not unintelligent. I couldn't care less what accent people type with so long as they have an understanding of the xeno background and RP. There is a lot of depth to it really, and people seem to skim by it and create yeehawing pvp based chars. The redneck issue is partly my fault, as Sidewinder is fairly high profile (leading the XA and all).

The movement is a blue collar group, and while the politics behind it are crap, it does represent and reflect a real movement in many countries. People should really try looking into the politics behind it if they want to RP the character properly.

Indeed, I always wanted to call the XA the Knights of Labor or similar to represent some of the real cultural movements that surrounded the poor working conditions and horrid exploitation of labor during the American industrial revolution. The groups that the Xenos are supposed to represent, in other words.

Xenos RP Gripe - Jihadjoe - 12-20-2008

[color=#FFFFFF]YEEEEEEEEHAW!

*cough*

Anyway. yeh, I infact refuse to let the 'lawdawgs' call us xenos, and only ever refer to the movement as the Knights.

Xenos RP Gripe - bluntpencil2001 - 12-20-2008

That and Texans that hate immigrants.

They are a popular movement, after all, and it kinda fits.

Be careful with calling yourself Knights and the like, boys, or I might ask to be named the Grand Dragon...

Now someone needs to explain to me why the coalition hates a people powered, salt of the earth, struggling terrorist movement composed entirely of people who've been beaten down by capitalism and just want an honest day's pay for an honest day's work.
