CV-Hoffnungsschimmer — Freelancer ID — Freelancer IFF

If a ship could be described with human adjectives, you could say that the Hoffnungsschimmer is sick. In an attempt to tamper with the cloaking device, my character made the ship sick with Nomad organisms that slowly eat their way through the ship and replace it with Nomad biomatter to convert it into a misshapen hybrid. This is, as we planned it, the first of up to three request we will do over the course of many many months to show the development of the ship which slowly becomes more organism than machine. The current changes to the momentary Corvo are a different engine, a unique cloak effect that is supposed to look very unstable, and Nomad contrails at the back of the ship. All are located at the back part of the ship, which is the currently most affected area by the Nomad changes.

The characters' home is on the Hoffnungsschimmer. They will now need to live in a ship that is very much unstable and could kill them if they're not careful. The next development in terms of our characters will be putting up with that fact, given that they also are very attached to the ship, sharing a lot of great memories on it.

Operative Red, an alias that Ezrael Vertiga uses to don a comic-hero like costume and protect the innocent.


And a ton of comms that are only minor interaction between our characters and those of other players. I will list the most recent ones here, but since they're not related to the ship directly, I just do that to show these characters are actually being played and that your effort here is not going to waste.

To: Sugartits | From: Handsome — This thread is a comm channel between Maren and Ezrael. It contains comms about all sorts of things. Onward from the post I linked, the thread is about the disappearance of Nancy Sweetwater, an ex-Reaver mercenary suffering from an artificially induced amnesia and is slowly trying to come to terms with her past.
To: Elena Voigt — A comm between Operative Red, aka Ezrael Vertiga in disguise, and Elena Voigt. I don't quite remember what the start of the comm was about but the end is about preparation for the meeting between Bassam Hussaini and Elena Voigt as you can read in the story Ill Met by Artificial Moonlight.
To: Ezrael Vertiga | Subject: Unable to contact Lily Austin — A comm from the employers of a friend of Ezrael that said friend did not appear at work, asking whether Ezrael knew about the friend's whereabouts.
To: Maren von Westefeld | From: Sherry Aguilar — A comm from the vice-captain of the Apahanta, Sherry Aguilar, to Maren about an accident that happened on the Apahanta. It injured Ezrael. Parts of this can also be read in the comm from Ezrael to Maren, which is the first link in this column.

Old Unique Ship Request Wrote:The Hoffnungsschimmer is old. It dates back to when @Sombra Hookier first joined the server and created the character of Ezrael Vertiga. The forum presence surrounding the character, and by extension the Corvo, started approximately two months before the first word about either was written. Since the inception of Ezrael Vertiga, which was on the 31st of March 2016 (at least on the forums), the Hoffnungsschimmer has been with him as his trusty mobile home. Being a civilian ship, it is not much in terms of combat, and after he met his future fiancé, Maren, who mostly tends to the ship for him, and also maintains a position of power over him, given that she is infected. With her close, and with him being hopelessly in love with her, there is no way Vertiga would ever act against the Nomads, and given that Maren can't simply infect him to assume control of the Apahanta, since she can't infect the crew because she has no access to them and Vertiga's infection would be noticed, she is content with exercising passive control over his actions in the hopes that, one day, she will have twisted his head enough for him to support the Nomads willingly.

The ship itself was, inRP, owned by Orbital Spa and Cruise prior to Vertiga procuring it ( -> Link 1 above). The only way the Hoffnungsschimmer inRP differs from other Corvos is by its paint job, which more closely resembles that of the OS&C shipline than that of Borderworlds Ships. That means, with this request, all that will be changed for the ship would be textures, and the hardpoints for contrails and the countermeasure dropper. The textures are there to make the ship resemble more closely the OS&C shipline in terms of looks, while the contrail hardpoints will be changed in order for them to be replaced with Nomad contrails (fx_dsy_no2_tentacle_medium) similar to the Rabisu has(refer to here and here for reasons why). The tl;dr behind this is that the ship is infected, and the Nomadic influence is taking over systems by appropriating them (cloak, engines) and making them more like itself. This is why a unique cloak and engine effect is also requested. The infection is, inRP, making both cloaking system and engines more volatile, and the custom effects are meant to reflect that. The normal Corvo has its CM placed on the left wing, which causes the cloak effect to be sideways when entering cloak. With placing the CM slot centric to the ship and aligning it correctly, the effect will look as it is intended. The Nomad tendrils supersede the contrail fx using the admin panel. This is why they will be rearranged so that these tendrils will actually look somewhat natural on the ship, i.e. by doing jellyfish motions like the ones on the Rabisu or Ishtar. Also, there is a new cloak sound that is also supposed to sound less tame and stable as the ones currently in the game.

All in all, we've always been a bit more character driven than roleplaying just for the sake of getting the story backing for an SRP request. Most of the ship's lore is written in the personal journals of both Ezrael and Maren, since to them, the ship is simply a home. The first link provided above is mostly to indulge the guideline of having some sort of "construction" RP, since most of these changes could also be done with an SRP request. The first link is, in a way, a tl;dr about the ship and what people need to know about it. Most of what is written there, you will find more in-depth in the other links provided above. At the end of the day, this is merely a reskin with minor changes to hardpoints. We have plans to make it more in the future, going for something reminiscent to the LNS-Tundra, but without combat capabilities. We hope this is enough.

As for the new stuff, I think I added enough summary above under #6.

The first entry for Ezrael's story, at least on the forums, was on the 31st of March 2016. Maren's story started on the 24th of March 2016.
