Biographical Profiling

Despite a keen officer of the naval tradition, Gigler comes from a family of merchant spacers rather than the enlisted, drawn predominantly from four generations of employment within the Government-owned Republican Exports and Shipping lines. Within Gigler comes an inherent suspicion of non-govermental institutions which has made the man naturally more pliable than the majority of those who come out of the military officer’s school, and less prone to the institutional rivalries that separate the now federally-separated intelligence apparatus from the armed services. After a stern, draconian career spanning the steady decline of Dresden, Gigler deduced that the conflict showed little opportunity for advancement as the harsh operational realities of keeping the Hessians at bay became progressively mundanified to the perspective of central command, and two years prior to his appointment as the head of the Object 13.A5 redevelopment program finally succeeded after half a generation of assignment transfer requests in embedding himself within the MND. Despite institutional rivalries making advancement near-impossible, Gilger excelled in his newly acquired field as a rear-line operations officer, conducting field evaluation exercises on MND equipment and hardware. Whilst never assigned to the most critical programs, Gilger performed admirably. Gilger’s late assignment to the Object 13.A5 program may be the most remarkable assignment he has received over his tenure, but it bears many similarities to previous exertions – largely underfunded and ordered dispassionately – however, the assignment grants Gilger extensive purview as to how he can command Object 13.A5 until the BDM proper decide to claim command of the vessel, and, with something of a cold conflict developing between Rheinland and the Gas Miner’s Guild, Lutz is keen to demonstrate the significant surveillance capacities of his pride and joy.

Gigler was apparently selected not the role not for his experience but his cynical, unbending manner and total lack of any form of superstitious beliefs or latent theology. Command, keen to separate fiction from fact, chose to appoint Gilger over his rival, police liason Finn Haast. Citing the official reason for the appointment as Haast’s general tendency towards overly independent thinking, it is more likely that the MND viewed Haast’s abrasive attitude inappropriate for a major salvage and archival program. Gigler is known to privately delight in his appointment, due to unspecified familial reasons for detesting Haast. It is uncertain if Gilger is aware that the hull he is commanding may be the physical anologue of the Dies Illa; the Flying Dutchman of the Sirius sector – however, even if he was, the rumour would be unlikely to give him any pause. Gilger, whilst an exceptional officer, remains an unimaginative man.
