Of Junkers and Capital Ships - Rudo - 01-21-2009

I've crossposted this from our external forum. I invite you all to weigh in with input.

Quote:I've simply been thinking of the example we've been setting out lately, with the recent rash of Junker capitals sitting on our bases. The reason for them is because of us.

I'm not so sure that Junkers have much use or need for a capital fleet, aside from the incoming Salvage Frigate. We're not a combat faction, and fielding capitals while ordering other capitals out of our space only invites reprecussions.

So I am taking a bold step and getting rid of my cruiser. My capital armor will go to my Transport. The Caveat Emptor will be decommissioned and replaced with a Kiith Somtaaw SHF, which itself will be roleplayed as a 3-4 man crewed heavy weapons response and recon vehicle. As an intelligence network fronted by a salvage op, the first thing anyone should know is that a show of force only invites an opposing show of force . And our strength lies in our political power and ability to deal with matters -- not how many caps we can field.

I think a fleet of Collectors, Bombers/SHFs, and Freighters with 'well-defended' Transports as heavy support will better represent us as Junkers not only to the world around us, but to us ourselves. For actual combat strength, I invite you to see the Armored Transport as an excellent example. I keep finding us leaning toward becoming a military faction and that doesn't sit well with me.

I invite you to observe this move, and if the direction appeals to you, to join me in this endeavor. I am not forcing anyone else to scrap their hard-earned capitals, but only to consider the direction we're headed in.

Succinctly put: As Congress leader, I am all for reducing our caps and replacing them with more realistic, more viable options. It's unlikely we'll see them removed entirely, but less capspam and more roleplay is what I am aiming for here. But I've left the options in the hands of each individual member of the Congress, as the Congress itself was founded as a gathering of individuals rather than a collective force.

EDIT: To emphasize -- there are certain Congress characters whose entire roleplay is based around their use of capitals. Again, they will not be forced to conform.

Of course we are not a combat faction, but we have interest to defend,we also have to show we are not only a weak faction, some of our base need a lots protection[Yanagi in sigma-13].Seems much people each day think they can do whatever they want whit the junkers, use their base like they want, and bring their war near our frontier.

We need capital ship like all others faction, but i agree, not a lots.

The capitals will be countered by political maneuvers and a lot of SNAC fire. And the salvage frigate will be our counter-capital of choice come 4.85.

But like I said, I've left the choice to follow me in the hands of each member of the Congress. Nobody has to, and nobody will be thought less of if they believe their roleplay is sufficient to support the use of their ship.

I'm personally going for what I should be doing, rather than what I think I could get away with and what the in-game climate demands.

I've been told not to say much, but I felt the need to give a tidbit of info... From what I hear, the salvage frigate is not a capship, but rather a transport. A very well defended transport, but a transport nonetheless.

I'm all for junkers using more transport/freighter/fighter/bomber type vessels as opposed to caps. We're getting a reskinned collector in 4.85 which looks completely awesome, and honestly capships arent exactly built to operate well in debris fields.

I've also heard that there are buffs being done to freighter-class ships, whether they're combat or trading buffs I dont know, but I think it would be interesting to focus junkers more on freighters than anythign else (considering nobody else uses them right now, really)... combat freighters fit the junkers very well IMO - room for cargo, but also not weak in combat.

I'm fully aware the salvage frigate isn't going to be a full-fledged capital and won't hold a candle to dedicated warships. This is why we're getting a super-awesome bomber, and also have the meanest combat freighter in the game.

We used to have about 4 Rheinland Pirate Cruisers indeed.

Rudo and Jack have gotten rid of theirs, and I, The.Silver.Hand, have also followed suit after reading this:
Quote:Keep in mind we don't just interact with each other, but we're being watched by the whole server as representatives of the Junker faction. A lot of things other unofficial Junkers do, they do because they see us doing it.

The only (inactive) director that still owns a Rheinland Pirate Cruiser would be Freja von Traufen (//Saigo), who will probably soon reduce her's to scrap metal as well.

//The biggest ship I have at this moment would be the Rusty Nail, an IMG Gunboat - which doesn't get much attention either.

Leading by example is definitely the way to go.

oh and another thing to mention... in 4.85 the hogosha are getting their shiny new black dragon fighter, which is what (I hope) most of them well be flying, myself included. If we can get the majority of junkers (at least junker's congress, hopefully some indies too) flying the new collectors, maybe we can finally have some decent turf wars going on =)

We pretty much all have a Collector already. Ofcourse we will fly it...

And about the turf wars, I'd don't know, some self-proclaimed Junker "purists" don't agree with the idea.
The Congress hasn't made a decision on it yet, but we do always ensure that the Hogosha get of our turf if we see 'em. [|]Dragon's.Mouth agreed with my anti-matter.

what i meant is that doom has made a slightly different model for the collector with a new paintjob.
