Well simply put, I am working on one of those rare and well hated by traders, cargo pirates. Stealing cargo to survive, not always for cash...I am sure most of you have met one atleast once.

Anyways I plan on making them independent...though with some ties to the junkers (pirate ID, but junker tag)... And I was looking to hear from people who have flown these two ship types

The Turanic Freighter, and the Pirate Transport

I have flown the TR before, It is decent, large 400 cargo bay, carries some nice weapons mounts...
It works rather nice in my mind for this... a poor homeless person trying to make a living in anyway they can

But I want to hear from some folks who have flown the Pirate transport. If I were to go into this ship, it would not be hard to make my RP character the leader of a small crew...but same deal, homeless, stealing to survive. It does have alot of forward firepower (seven front turrets I think), and a good sized bay. But I dont have any experience with flying it or opinions from other players on how the ship is.

I want to know some personal oppinions from people who have flown, fought as or against these two ships.

Thanks

The Pirate Transport is unparalleled in the cargo stealing game. Six forward turrets, and about the same number in every direction. Good armor, power supply that never runs out, and 3600 cargo. Maneuverability is a bit worse than a big gunboat, size is big, but not in comparison to most transports. Probably a bit bigger than the Rheinland GB.

It's a great ship. The Turanic and Kushan are good, but the P-Trans literally blows them out of the water, in my opinion.

You could always, you know, be an angry farmer and use some transports. We always like to do that. Of course, the kinks are still being worked out, but the Behemoth is the best Transport out there (Really, it's amazing).

Anyway, the Turanic is a very good freighter. If you mount Salamanca Turrets on it, you can almost fire forever. It's semi-maneuverable, but the texture is lacking, definitely...

The Pirate Transport, I have never flown, but what I can assume is that it's basically a worse Gunboat. What you're asking about it really whether or not you should go with maneuverability or armor, and, in my opinion, maneuverability is the better choice. Go with the freighter, and if you don't like it, it's a smaller investment, and you can always change it into a fighter.

Well...to me, I'd suggest a Firefly, it's got decent maneuverability, and pretty damn good armor, a Nice cargo hold able to hold 3500 units, I gave up my Liner to nab a Firefly, and it sounds like it would be suitable for the purpose you intend to acquire a ship for.

Also, it's equipped with 8 turret hardpoints, four forward firing turrets and four rear firing.

Edit: I warn you though, she's not a pretty ship xD

The Pirate Transport is what you want, beyond all things.

I fly one for the Congress in this regard -- smugglers that are not affiliated with Junkers and don't use Junker bases to unload pay a heavy price when they are caught by me. I've racked up a few kills from powersmugglers that don't stop, and taken the Junkers' "cut" of 1000-1500 units (20-30% of revenue) from those that are willing to bargain for their lives.

I've also got a decent cap armor on it, too. I'd wager I could take on an averagely equipped and piloted gunboat in it.

Container transport.

12 forward firing turrets? yes plz...

just one problem, is I dont think it has a cruise disruptor. Maybe the prison liner or the luxury liner would work.

It doesn't.

The Pirate Transport was designed for cargo interdiction, too.

well the junker salvage frigate will (from what i hear) also be perfect for this sort of thing in 4.85, it has a pretty hefty cargo hold and better than average firepower for a transport.

P-Trans is the cargo interdiction ship of choice at this time. Don't expect to be fighting off Gb's in it, unless you armour it properly, but it'll do everything else a pirate needs to do, vis a vis stealing other folks stuff. Just learn to run.

I actually took a bounty against an advanced train with my firefly transport the other day... I won, fairly easily I would say (the element of surprise helps a bit) - but it was a very long fight as I slowly whittled the guy's shields down, and I had to constantly disrupt the trade lanes and use cruise disruptors to keep him from running. Overally I probably disrupted lanes half a dozen times and I used almost 40 CD's.

Then again, the firefly only has 4 forward firing turrets. The biggest thing I would suggest is trying to avoid targets that use advanced transport shields or have armor upgrades. It is HARD getting through an adv. transport shield with only transport turrets, and most transports have quite a few bats and bots to use for regens as you try to wear them down.

Biggest issue is that a trader is less likely to pay (or give cargo to) a pirate flying a transport, simply because they know it will be very difficult for the enemy to take them down. When a trader sees a gunboat or bomber, they know there's no possible way they can win a fight, and most of the time they wont be able to get away, but a pirate in a cargo ship doesnt have nearly as much firepower available.

For now, yea, I'd probably say use the pirate transport. It's one of the few transports my firefly actually has trouble in a combat situation against (it has more guns available and has equal manuverability/armor). I might suggest using a tizona del cid turret for one of your forward firing hardpoints though.
