So I'm thinking of getting Guild Wars... - Xing - 01-29-2009 ... and it's probably very late for anyone to get that game, but yeah... and then, I realised none of the damned gaming or tech shops has them in stock anymore... at least for the moment... or so, they pretend. been a whole week, neither shop has anything. hmkay... So, is this game of any good, according to this community? I enjoy MMORPG with some RP community. I don't really like abusive pvp - I'm much more PvE to be frank in these sort of games, with players being only some sort of... social interactive stuffs to me. Is that game achieving any of these points? I heard so, but I wonder what some people here think of. Also, any comments on the upcoming Guild Wars 2 I heard was about to come out and replace 1? So I'm thinking of getting Guild Wars... - Guest - 01-29-2009 I see quite a few stores with Guild Wars in stock... Complain to the manager. Anyways, about Guild Wars 2, i cant remember much except it possibly coming out sometime this year. Replacing 1, doubt it. People will more than likely still play GW1. If it reminds me too much of DAoC where a lone spell caster can wipe out an entire group of players, i'll definately be on GW1 more than 2. As for my comments about it... The startup is a bit slow, but after a while it gets quicker, especially with people to help ya. Main thing I like about it is that the PvP is more balanced than any other game. Theres no BS about someone having better equipment than you in regards to damage modifying stats (Strength, Dexterity, Agility, Intelligence, etc) PvE really depends on what type of character you play, and what campaign your in. Prophecies you'll probably find it easy to get a group regardless, since everything isnt necessarily difficult. Factions people get a bit more selective to who they let in their group. Assassins are a good example ----Assassins have a bad rep in PvE due to a large majority of them charging into a fight and trying to tank like a Warrior. If you want to play one, stay back in the group, let the Warrior tank, and then start attacking. ----Ritualists depending on their setup can be very strong whether in offense or defense, or can be completely useless. --------Most of their spells depend on one thing or another. Some of their spells are spirits which are immobile. Nightfall people tend to use Heroes, except for the end-game missions where good players are important. So I'm thinking of getting Guild Wars... - Xing - 01-29-2009 so, basically, pvp is quite well. How about the worlds? are they well made? Are cities, for instance, of realistic and yet enjoyable size? I still recall WoW with ridiculous cities and horribly cartoon houses... So I'm thinking of getting Guild Wars... - kingvaillant - 01-29-2009 I have then all except faction. The story line is quite nice. things are well balanced. PvP can be done within close arenas maps only (so you can't be PKed). Cities are the only place, beside arenas, and your group when outside, where you can meet other players. When exploring, you are with your group (players/NPC (8 max)) only, PvEing. GW mainly focus on teamwork and skill management, not who's using the best gear. Which is what I like. Ohh and you don't have to pay per month and your chars are never wiped. Go watch some vids on youtube. Ohh, and you can buy any GW EXCEPT eye of the north (this one is an expansion, not a stand alone). Once you have one game, you can buy the others online. They will be "activated" on your account and everything will install itself automatically when you enter a zone. So you don't have to worry about reformating or deinstalling, as long as you keep an installation CD. Even there, I think you can dl from their website. So I'm thinking of getting Guild Wars... - Guest - 01-29-2009 Heres a few ingame screenshots i found for a good bit of the main areas. ![]() ![]() ![]() Left To Right: Pre-Searing Ascalon (Tutorial) Post-Searing Ascalon (Starting Area) Droknar's Forge ![]() ![]() Left To Right: Shing Jea Island (Tutorial / Starting Area) Kaineng City - The Marketplace Jade Sea Echovald Forest ![]() Left To Right: Istan - Kamadan (Tutorial / Starting Area) Jahai Bluffs - Fortress of Jahai (Not much i can do about em being different sizes.) So I'm thinking of getting Guild Wars... - Xing - 01-29-2009 oh, this looks amazing. Can't wait the EB Games or Pastshop get some copies of the game. Right now, only EB Games has... yeah, Eye of the North, 2 copies left... baaah.... -_- So I'm thinking of getting Guild Wars... - kingvaillant - 01-29-2009 pictures are quite low quality heh? Humm, go to Futureshop or Bestbuy? they should have it. Last resort, go to Toys 'r us So I'm thinking of getting Guild Wars... - Xing - 01-29-2009 been through all, and no, we dont have such thing as a Best buy around Quebec city... None have it T_T none! raaah... does the character and items looks fancy? Lot of customisation and things like that? So I'm thinking of getting Guild Wars... - kingvaillant - 01-29-2009 http://www.xfire.com/screenshots/kingvaillant/ Look at my screens, some are still loading in. As for weapons, Each class has its own style of weapon and fighting, they can however learn a secondary class, thus letting them maneuver other weapons for the selected class. Warrior: Swords, axes, hammers Archers: Bows Paragon: Spears Dervish: Scythe (I love that one) Assassin: Hand knives Ritualiste, necro, mesmer, Monk: rod, scepter You can customize your weps (can add 2(3) things on them, you can also paint them, as well as your armor) Giving you special attributes like Healing when hitting an enemy, or doing more damage when enchanted, etc. There isn't THAT MUCH customization for weapons, but there is a fair level of it. The game relies on the technique, not the wares you have So I'm thinking of getting Guild Wars... - Xing - 01-29-2009 some of your screen are just wrong, David... xD |
