Seeking suggestions: I want to hunt pirates in Liberty - Irishacana - 03-06-2018

Hey there everyone, I have a successful trader primary character and have saved up over 750 million credits and have a Stork transport. I want to patrol Liberty space as I find there are frequently pirates extorting tolls from defenseless large transports. I have the credits to buy a capital ship but am seeking suggestions!

I was considering going for a Liberty Battlecruiser but am worried it might be too slow to catch the Rogue, Outcast, Lane Hacker or Xeno VHFs I see in the New York System harassing traders.

My other choice which is more affordable is the Thresher from the Bounty Hunters Guild / thé Core which seems to have everything I am looking for. Any suggestions and advice on what ship I should invest in would be sincerely appreciated.

Recap:
Looking to patrol trade lanes in Liberty primarily
Want to hunt down pirates harassing traders
Want a capital ship not a VHF or a Bomber
What faction is best for taking out pirates in Liberty? Liberty Navy or Bounty Hunter Guild?

If you want a good allrounder, try the Liberty Siege Cruiser and give it a Light Mortar, a missile of your choice and the rest Solaris turrets. You will be good against everything a bit while lone snubs won't try to get you since you are way too heavy. The Liberty Siege Cruiser is also the most solid cruiser out there.

That being said, you won't be allowed to use a foreign capital ship in Liberty. BHG doesn't have capitals anymore and you won't be allowed to use Core capitals in Liberty.

This is exactly what I wanted to know! I played back in 2013 and I owned a Thresher destroyer working for the Bounty Hunters Guild, when I got back in Freelancer Discovery in late 2017 I discovered “The Core” is basically the Bounty Hunters Guild now? Are any Core ships allowed in Liberty, for instance VHFs and Bombers or are they restricted to the edge worlds where the Core is based? My understanding of the Bounty Hunters Guild was they were allowed in Bretonia, Liberty and Rheinland but were forbidden from entering Kusari or Gallia space. My understanding of where the Bounty Hunters Guild is allowed to operate might be outdated.

I was also strongly considering the Liberty Archer Cruiser it seems like a great all around capital ship and could be very useful dealing with pirates in Liberty space. Thank you very much for the suggestion!

If you want to hunt down pirates in Liberty, a fitting choice would be the Bounty Hunters Guild. If you want to hunt pirate fighters/bombers, your best bet would be to go for a Bottlenose or Orca with Solaris Turrets. In some cases, pirates will simply run away from you, but unfortunately, unless you're willing to hunt in a fighter/freighter, that's the price you pay for flying a cap: Lower thrust speed. Still, gunboats are a good class to engage fighters in, especially if you go with Silencer missiles (anti-fighter missiles). Trying to fly after fighters in a cruiser is sometimes seen as unsportsmanlike, and might generate some flak from some players. Still, if you act more defensively and simply request smaller pirates to vacate the area, rather than shoot them first, it's technically their own fault if they decide to engage you. I will admit that the Siege Cruiser is one of the best all-around cruisers out there.

Consider this: As a Bounty Hunter, you may also feel free to roam in Bretonia, Rheinland, and even some parts of Kusari, if the hunt is slow in Liberty some days. The Bottlenose is generally considered the snub-killer of gunboats, with it's small size and superior agility. The Orca is far bigger, but has access to a heavier power core, and a forward gun in case you run into bigger targets (You'd likely be support for local militaries, against large ships). Still, the advantage of the Bottlenose is that it has a limited cargo size, so you're not too handi-capped by not mounting a Cap 8 (since you don't have the cargo space necessary, anyways), meaning that the Bottlenose is far cheaper to finance than the Orca. You could very likely get away with flying the Bottlenose like you would a Super Heavy Fighter, just keep in mind that only 4 of the turrets fire forward, with all 6 backwards and 3 on each side.

I recommend you go to Freeport 9 for the "Spatial" Civilian Super Heavy Fighter. Gun/ turret mounts is 6/3 (2 of the turrets shoots forward) base armor 29,600, 295 for cargo ( which would allow for CAU 5, 6 and 7 to be mounted on this fighter) power out put 2350/39130, Batt/ nano 270/270, Impulse speed 80, Cruise speed 375, 2 Mine slots, 2 Torpedo slots (use Train Disruptor in one) and CM. On my Spatial slots 3, 4, 5 and 6 have 2 JADES, 1 TWILIGHT and 1 CERBERUS code guns which shoots 880-990 at 3.03 refire rate at 600-650 meters (slots 3 and 4 is TWILIGHT and CERBERUS to hide Mini Razor shot from Torpedo slot 2 and it hits at 17,400 hull and 8700 shield with refire rate of .33. Heavy Flashpoint for slot 1 and 2 as well as Heavy Flashpoint turrets that hit at 520 at 5.00 refire rate. This works best for fast short fire burst passes FvF in PvP. It will not take down a Gunboat that is well equipped with a decent pilot that has turret steering skills. Most pirates in Liberty use fighters. In Bretonia pirates use Gunboats a lot due to the Border worlds. The Spatial is 1 heavy fighter that people over look especially BAF|MN. They have outstanding pilots that hold their own against Gallic Pliers. They don't realize the base armor on SHF Pliers is 30,000 and the Spatial is the one agile SHF that would make their duels more evenly matched against Gallic SHF Pliers. I also equipped mine with cloak for stealth recon. Sorry for this long winded reply. It is a habit for me to be thorough.

As the owner of the Gallic Plier that traumatized BAF|MN as Ktcustm mentioned, the Plier is amazing.

However.

You'll probably want an indie Navy Crecy.

Liberty Navy gets 90% on Bret caps.

The more you know...

Don't forget that you want at least a Capital Armor Upgrade VI.
