Gallia - Karlotta - 03-09-2018 This questions are addressed to everyone, especially Gallic Faction leaders, storyline devs, and anyone who knows anything about Gallia: 1. Do you see any issues with this version of Gallic history below? The parts in green are made up by me to provide possible explanations for other aspects of gallic history, which I couldn’t find in wiki or infocards. Would it be better to make the first Clermont dynasty more moderate, and the second Clermont dynasty the radical one, by putting the green stuff in after the Clermonts return to power? 2. Not really explained how the gauls “invented” jump gates and trade lanes. There is a hint about aliens in the Calais station infocard, but is that all? Should I add something about gates and lanes being invented after the station was built? 3. There’s little to nothing to be found about the first Gallic Civil war. Anyone know who fought, why, and from when to when? Anything to do with “Normandie rebels”? And/Or the other dynasty that took over 418 to 515? Is it linked to the ceiled-off jump gates? The later would conflict with the jumpgates being invented after Calais was built. 1 A.G.S (84 A.S) - Sleeper Ship Gallia II lands on Planet New Paris. After the first Gallia was destroyed by the Coalition, a second ship was built at a later stage of the war, carrying more refugees on an extremely risky journey. Many of them believe the first Gallia was used as a decoy by the other nations so their sleeper ships could escape safely. 2-94 A.G.S - Planet New Paris turns out to be extraordinarily food and mineral abundant, leading to high population growth. Resentment and mistrust of the other Alliance nations becomes widespread, which extremists use for their political goals. 47 A.G.S - A Jumphole to the Picardy system is found and Planet Amiens settled soon afterwards. 60 A.G.S - A stable jumphole to the Orleanais system is discovered. 82 A.G.s - After extensive tests on the two jump holes, development of jumpgate technology begins in a remote region of Picardy. 94 A.G.S – Military hardliners depose the moderate democratic government in a coup. King Charles I is crowned at Ile du Palais. He establishes the Valois-Clermont dynasty, turning Gallia towards isolationism. 110 A.G.S - Planet Orleans becomes the second planet settled by Gallia. 204 A.G.S - First mining colonies are established on Planet Amiens. 247 A.G.S - Rambouilette Shipyard construction is completed. It focuses on development of Military ships and mine fields that keep Gallia isolated. 286 A.G.S - Colonization of Planet Lyon begins. 291 A.G.S - An expedition discovers a series of jumpholes leading through systems that become known as the Normandie region. Although the Crown attempts to keep them secret to prevent uncontrolled settling, the news is spread by dissenting whistle-blowers. 300 A.G.S - On the 300th Anniversary celebration of Gallia, the pompous squander, oppression, and paranoia of the crown sparks protests which are crushed with an iron fist. A larger uprising follows, starting the first Gallic civil war. 301-418 A.G.S - Parts of Gallia's population flee the dictatorial rule by heading towards the Normandie region. 306 A.G.S - Epernon Station becomes and important black market hub and becomes involved in supplying Normandie rebels. 418 A.G.S - Valois-Anjou dynasty ascends to power and grants Normandie autonomy as a move to end the civil war. 514 A.G.S – The Valois-Clermont Dynasty returns to power in a renewed coup. They turn the governing structure of Gallia into a simple one: The King is the embodiment of the law, so everyone who opposes the King opposes the law. 514 -711 A.G.S – The Gallic Crown turns the revenge against the other Alliance survivors into a quasi-religious state doctrine in order to deter from Gallia's internal problems. It uses false flag attacks from alleged spies and traitors to silence all opposition. 526 A.G.S - A new top secret research facility called Calais is built in Picardy. Rumors say the facility houses some kind of alien life form. 556 A.G.S - The Mouvement de Libertation Gaulois is formed as a moderate and progressive monarchist movement. 598 A.G.S - Rambouilette Shipyard starts mass production of warships for the Royal Navy, preparing for the invasion of Sirius. 636 A.G.S - King Louis IV orders the disbandment of the Mouvement de Liberation Gaulois. The more progressive and liberal elements of the MLG, later known as The Council, begin a phase of militant expansion. 711-717 A.G.S - A popular uprising backed by The Council happens on Marne, Champagne. The Gallic Royal Forces gradually lose control over Marne, Reims, and the entire Champagne system. The Second Gallic Civil War begins. 720 A.G.S - GRN forces try and fail to prevent a combined force of Council, Maquis and Brigand forces advancing towards the minefield that separates Gallia from the rest of Sirius. 725 A.G.S - The Massacre at Gap happens: Council forces retreat after a failed attempt to board Gap station but deal excessive damage. 729 A.G.S - Council forces enter Languedoc and destroy Remoulins Station. 732 A.G.S - Council forces take over Quillan. The Crown closes the core worlds down and regains control of the gate to Dauphine. 733 A.G.S (817 A.S) - The Council breaches the minefields of Languedoc and Lorraine and constructs Reunion Station at the other side of the minefield. 817 A.S (733 A.G.S) - With the core worlds open again, the GRN begins their conquest: they flush out Council, Maquis and Brigand forces from Languedoc and defeat Kusari Naval Forces in the Tau systems. 819 A.S (735 A.G.S) - The Royal Gallic Police denounces and influx of Cardamine into Gallic society, blaming it on a conspiracy of Gallia's enemies. 820 A.S (736 A.G.S) - Gallia breaks through Bretonian lines and claims Leeds. Liberty redirects military forces to help Bretonia against Gallic advance. Kusari opens trade with Gallia. RE: Gallia - Karlotta - 03-10-2018 Bump. Come on guys, there must be SOMEONE who knows about the early history or Gallia and the way Gallia is actually supposed to be? Don't be shy, even if you dont know the answer to everything. Come on guys, there must be SOMEONE who knows about the early history or Gallia and the way Gallia is actually supposed to be? Don't be shy, even if you dont know the answer to everything. Normandie (meant to be the systems of Brittany, Normandy, and one other system I eternally forget), was meant to re-emerge into the mod and effectively out-Gallia Gallia by surprise-attacking them from their western flank and banding up with Bretonia. Apparently Normandie was threatening enough to the crown that a good third of the fleet was always meant to stay on Gallia's western side due to the potential threat, slowing the invasion of Bretonia down eventually, as effectively the Normands were the only people who successfully achieved victory against the Crown within Gallia's history. Unfortunately all systems that were meant to serve as interconnections between Normandie (Maine, Berry, Touraine, Lorraine), had their sealed gates/systems removed/rejoined and Normandie itself was effectively cut in a change of direction - a questionable one as it would have made Gallia similar to a conventional house in potential for internal activity and have given Gallia a credible way it could lose the war with Bretonia, Council, Liberty, CR. The express reason Igiss made Gallia so enormous/powerful was because it was going to be fighting everyone on every flank. Since Normandie itself isn't retconned (just been made apparent that development will never happen/Gallia will never be finished or balanced as it was meant to be), it's conceivable(?) that Gallia still holds a large amount of its internal reserves out there. Gallia was eventually going to turn into a democracy due to being embattled into the floor, Bretonia, Normandie, Council, etc, were going to march gloriously into Ill De France, and a government flip would have occurred with the Royalists basically becoming Council and the Council becoming the Royalists. Anti-Gallia trolling really screwed any chance the house had of being active or useful other than a humanoid nomad-esque threat. That and Igiss leaving to play world of tanks. RE: Gallia - Thyrzul - 03-10-2018 1.) Green text: the Sleeper Ship Gallia was not sabotaged, only the Hispania was. Instead the sleeper ship was meant to be a bait used by America and Britain to delay Coalition forces until the other five sleeper ships can leave in time. That betrayal is the basis of hatred and revenge of today's Gallia against Bretonia and Liberty.
The key of the survival of the french was that the official sleeper ship was an empty bulk, a decoy, and the real sleeper ship launched in secret, from somewhere else. The notion of betrayal has been kept up ever since, prompting the 150 year long construction of the minefields and the maintenance of the massive war machine, so the idea that it became some sort of quasi-religious doctrine holds merit. 2.) The original explaination for the trade lane and jump gate system was that the Gallic Junkers stole the technology from Sirius with the help of the Sirian Junkers, but that was retconned upon massive community disagreement. The newer explaination was that Gallia has found their own version of the Valhalla site, but I don't remember if that was ever expanded upon and/or explained in detail. It can easily have relations to Calais indeed. 3.) The First Gallic Civil War has been fought between the Crown and the Normandy Separatists. Whether it was intended to be a single system or an entire region is unknown, but Normandy was situated behind a gate on the far end of Maine, which became sealed off at the end of the civil war, and was found as such by the time the Gallic Core systems became accessible as of 4.86. If my memory serves well, it was the Saumur herself watching over the gate until the supernova prompted the evacuation of the system. Epernon infocard suggests that the war happened somewhere between 300 and 500 AGS, but then the fact the war already ended with a closed gate before 500 AGS suggests there was already an existent gate and lane system developed at least as far as two systems from the capital planet/system. That however conflicts with the idea that the technology would originate from Calais, though the station and the secrets it harbors can still be related. Other than that, dates: 1 AGS is 85 AS, that's how the 84 year difference comes to existence. That's then correct at the end of the timeline, except the last line where I assume the 736 AGS date wasn't fixed to 740 AGS after a copy/paste from above. This is a post by me written in like 30 minutes off the top of my head according to what I can remember, but at the same time I cannot tell where I've read or found what I've read and found and remembered when writing this post, unless I invest a bit more time into researching Wiki, infocards, past infocards, and actually find things. I certainly remember trying to look up more information about the Normandy Separatists in the past, only to fail finding what I recalled from even before that. How up to date the wiki is regarding infocards and history is also questionable in my opinon, and I'm not sure about the consistency of infocards either (Saumur infocard incorrectly paired years 781 AGS and 825 AS, likely a typo though). All that said, I'm up to buffing up Gallic history and fixing the plenty of holes and gaps it has in collaboration with the rest of the Gallic playerbase, but for now I intend to refrain from making decisions and statements (past my memories) until others comment here. I also wonder if my attempt at developing Amiens a bit can be counted in. @Taeni Berry and Touraine were retconned, and neither had any sealed jump gates prior to that either. Lorraine could have been connected to the sealed off region though, and I remember Auvergne having another sealed jumpgate which used to be around where Saint-Flour is now, but disappeared without notice. On the other hand I don't remember anything suggesting the separatists were as powerful and threatening to the Crown as you portray them to be. Mind that this response was written after everything I wrote above it, as I refreshed and seen your post only after writing mine. RE: Gallia - Karlotta - 03-11-2018 Thank you Taeni (your inbox is full btw) and Thyrzul for the info. I re-wrote Gallic history in the OP. About the other things you said, even if they're not really related to this... I think the main reason Gallia became so unpopular/unpopulated were these: -200 players can barely populate 4 houses, alpha, gamma, and all the other places that were added. Let alone a fifth house -the way it was isolated from everything else through hostile rep -the way it was isolated through ZOI restrictions -the way using only using the gear was already a law violation and got you shot everywhere -the way people thought the story didnt make sense. The fact that the story was never really even explained properly contributed to that -the way even traveling there was already made a pain with long distances. It doesnt need more connections. It needs faster connections. Even if all 6 of these things were addressed with positive changes, I'd still be surprised if it would ever be able to compete with vanilla houses in terms of popularity and population. That's a good way to mask a Normandy invasion with propaganda! You're the Council, you should be exposing that, be it true or not! RE: Gallia - Doc Holliday - 03-12-2018 I had some issues with the whole Gallia thing starting back when it was first introduced. If you remember Dab, he was RPing both King Charles AND Queen Corina. I had a lot of issue with that. It was the ultimate power game. He was power hungry anyway and we quarrelled often both in RP and in RL. No one, and I mean no one, should get to RP more than one house leader. I still get a kick out of how every Sirian is to blame for the sins of generations past. I guess blanket punishment is easier than going after those responsible. I mean, let's say for chat sake that Gallia succeeded and completely took over Sirius. Then what? They would rule it for awhile with nowhere really to go. They would tap out the resources of Sirius for their home worlds and have no reason to keep hanging on. Sure, you would have a lot of underground fighting and such but no real story lines....unless there was another galaxy to conquer....but for what reason? I don't know. I'm not a war monger, at least, not in this server, so maybe I'm missing something. Can confirm Dab was power hungry as fuck. Even oorp he acted like he was the high and mighty shit. But TO BE FAIR... A lot of people were. I started getting that way when i had my time on outcast leadership, but i was a kid so i didn't really know what to do with my power. Anyways, karlotta touched on the idea that 200 players could barely populate all the houses back then. Which is true. But we still have all the houses now with less players. It's got me wondering.. Is there any way we could ever shrink the scale of the game down a bit to match the population so we increase encounters with other players? We would of course have a roleplay reason for doing this. Just a thought though. Cause i think the end result would be positive more than negative. RE: Gallia - Doc Holliday - 03-12-2018 I think I would rather see a population explosion of players rather than a downsizing of the game BUT I see the latter happening first. I mean, OK, Gallia came in, made their push but like the Roman Empire, got stretched too far out and retreated back to their space....but not in a bad way. |
