Number of players online - mjolnir - 02-07-2009 About a year ago the number of players that can be on server got increased from 128 to 200. Recently there are over 180 players on in the "primetime", while it's really nice the truth is that the lag during that makes fighter combat into random shooting on ghosts. So the obvious question comes: [color=#FF0000]Should number of player slots be reduced (I'd say to 170) to avoid extreme lag? ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ When the number of slots was upped there was a poll here: http://discoverygc.com/forums/index.php?sh...0838&st=100 Generally when increasing the number of slots people mostly said that "as long as it's stable". after some time there was a discussion here: http://discoverygc.com/forums/index.php?sh...13712&st=10 Number of players online - Cannon - 02-07-2009 The server does get a little busy when it gets over about 160 players. Another solution would be to buy a nitrogen cooled beast...nah...helium cooled beast of a computer. I hear that some body clocked an AMD? cpu at 6.5Ghz with helium cooling. I've also got a cunning plan I'm working on as another way to deal with the load problem. It is very cunning and probably will not work but if it does... Number of players online - Guest - 02-07-2009 I would be against it, as while pvp IS a part of the rp, 30% do come here for RP rather than pvp... Number of players online - Magoo! - 02-07-2009 And without enjoyable PvP, there is no PvP. Without PvP, its just a bunch of (normally I'd say idiots, because I'm angry at the moment, but I know most of us aren't) people standing around talking. So those 30% of people who come to RP would probably leave. Number of players online - swift - 02-07-2009 Double edged sword it is. While less lag would be really really awesome, cause it is ruining events and stuff, especially saturday nights. But the thing is then, I can really foresee my and other factions not being able to hold some events because of all the slots being taken, which sometimes happens even with the atm 200 limit, so it'd be worse with a 170 one. We need to weigh the pros and cons of it. Number of players online - dr lameos - 02-07-2009 I suck at PvP anyway, so i'd choose more players Number of players online - swift - 02-07-2009 Nice argumenting there, Coriko. Lag makes fights annoying and useless. Although RP is fun, to me it is not complete without fighting. You can play high and mighty how ever much you wish, but when push comes to shove, RP and PVP go side by side. Thing is, lag makes me pull my hair out and my brain cells die. I remember the testing phase, with 255 slots. I have a scrennshot with 170 players on it. And the ping is not that bad. Do not lower the slots to 170, expand the server onto 300! More fun i think than 170. Maybe without NPC's. More than 150 players, it isnt easy, to find NPC's. Number of players online - Guest - 02-07-2009 Hmmm, but maybe its possible to decrese player slots only while the competitions. Number of players online - William Frederick Cody - 02-07-2009 or set the events on a time, when only 100 players are on, hm... If the 200th line is touched, it is friday or saturday. So not the best idea, to lower slots at that time. ok, we need a higher cpu speed and more ice. Damn for the one-core-restriction. Whats about an extra server, for events only. 30-50 slots. But i think, the more players online, the more RP fun is around. |
