over 50? How is your heart? A quick poll on a very relevant subject. - Mickk - 08-08-2018 Hey all. Just a quick poll that pretty much concerns everyone. I don't know why I made it a poll, maybe just to be different. I turned 50 a year ago and failed to do something that I should have done at that time, which is, I should have gone and had a full physical. Possibly if I had of done them back then, things might not have been quite as serious as they are now. I am currently recovering from a triple heart bypass. Today (as of the day I write this) is the 9th day since the procedure and I have been back home for two days. Doing *anything* at all is tiring, even sitting at the keyboard typing is making me tired. Taking a shower is going to be a major effort. I am on pain killers, not major stuff, plain old Paracetemol (sp?) 24/7 with some backup from a heavy hitter 3 times a day if I need it. I am basically not allowed to do anything for next 6 weeks, until my breastbone has had time heal a bit. I never realized that doing things with your arms depended so much on that piece of bone in the middle of your chest. I don't have pictures of my chest, but I have a couple of my leg where they have taken the grafts needed for the procedure. The scar is 50 cm long ( 18 inches) and runs from just above my ankle, ending just above my knee. If you are 50 or over, whatever your gender and you haven't had a full physical yet, go and get one, it may be one one of the most important things you do in your life. RE: over 50? Don't worry people the poll is set to not show who voted what. ![]() On other things, the bruising is going away and I'm feeling better simply because I have been able to SLEEP. Hospitals are such noisy places, especially if you don't have a private room. RE: over 50? How is your heart? Shit's scary and exhausting. I do know people who have had bypasses done and I've heard the same from them, you're absolutely going to feel less than stellar for a little while, and that includes being totally exhausted. Glad to hear you're okay and wish you the best in your recovery. RE: over 50? How is your heart? Glad to hear you're okay and wish you the best in your recovery. That is it exactly. There is pain, but it is being managed with pain killers. The kicker is that even doing the most normal things, such as making coffee tires you out. Yeah, anything to do with heart problems is scary. I had a 'heart wire' taped to the front of my chest for the first few days after surgery so they could hook up a pace maker to bring things under control if they needed to. I did not actually find out what that odd bit of wire was until just before they pulled it out, it just did not occur to me to ask. lol RE: over 50? How is your heart? A quick poll on a very relevant subject. - OrignlGaminGeneration (OGG) - 08-09-2018 I did turn 50 in Jan 2018. I never had heart trouble due to eating more fruits and veggies and cutting out more and more processed foods and meats over the last few years. This change in diet has made a difference in my energy level as well. I have found eating what I call live organic foods ( veggies) from the farmers market has improved my over all health ( even though I still need to lose 80 pounds of weight or 36-37 kg from eating the wrong foods for 40 plus yrs), but I stay away from GMO veggies and the Corporate farmed veggies due to their chemical fertilizer use. I have been looking into doing my own garden/greenhouse as well. You might want to look into some research on the benefits of live foods vs processed foods and make changes according to what you want to accomplish in your health and well being. The weirdest change that I have made is that I eat Kale for breakfast and at night for a snack. It is a heavy textured leafy veggie that has a little bitter after taste BUT has one of the highest antioxidants of any single live food. Here is one movie that might get you started and it is called "Foods that Cure Disease". The maker of this video made it a little irritating by having cut in recipe vids in the middle of the informational interviews. I recommend that you fast forward past the recipe vids so as not to lose the momentum of the health information people are seeking. Then go back to the recipe vids when you want to give them a try. All the high end Cancer Treatment Facilities have live foods as part of their treatment of all cancers and also teach that processed sugar is fuel for cancer cells, and they teach about the benefits of live foods on the human body as a whole including food impact on the heart. Good luck. RE: over 50? How is your heart? A quick poll on a very relevant subject. - Mickk - 08-10-2018 Had 25 of the 50 staples in my leg removed today. Very little pain involved, no tearing of the wound after the fact and the "Silver Chain" nurse was kinda cute too. The other 25 staples come out in a few days. RE: over 50? How is your heart? This is my 70th year and thought of creating a group of pensioners, trouble is I did not want to be in a group on my own LOL. Good to see some silver hair out there. RE: over 50? How is your heart? That would have made you 23-24 yrs old when the first home TV gaming console " Magnavox Odyssey" came out. I just turned 4 when they had a demo of it on the news where I lived. Then a few months later Atari released Pong and I was hooked on gaming . Most of the average age Gamer on this site and through out the world will never be able to fully understand the joy of the tech changes that you have seen and probably enjoyed. I kept an Atari 2600 with Missile Command in storage and let my step son try it 15 yrs ago and he said " This sucks! The controller is weird and the graphics are crap." For us back then it was state of the art (Hahaha). It is a privilage to be part of the original gaming generation and this is why I picked the name. It should have been your name. Im just keeping an eye on it because at times it does worry me. |
