Trouble installing/loading Halo: Combat Evolved - H-sie - 02-18-2009

Ok, so I bought Halo: Combat Evolved because my PC sucks and I have to buy older games for it (getting Xbox soon though Razz). ANYWAY, I just found out how riddiculously rubbish my PC is because it won't even play it. Which is weird because I used to own it (Well, it was on my PC... Wink ) and it worked fine back then.

Now though, I get this loverly messege:

Halo - Fatal Error

A problem occured initializing Direct3D.
Hardware acceleration maybe disabled, please run DXDIAG

Machine info: 1100MHz, 768MB, 320M ATI (0x4153)

Yeah, so does anyone know the problem? Other info that could be useful is that I installed it on an external harddrive that has PLENTY of space.

If anyone can help with the cryptic error messege, that would be really nice!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I ran DXDIAG, and all I can see is "No problems found" except in one area, Sound, where it said:

The file cmuda.sys is not digitally signed, which means that it has not been tested by Microsoft's Windows Hardware Quality Labs (WHQL). You may be able to get a WHQL logo'd driver from the hardware manufacturer.

But would that really cause the fatal error?

And the PC was wrong, Hardware acceleration was Enabled.

Oh, I decided to troubleshoot, and so far the only potential problem I have found is:

Do you have duplicate or multiple device drivers?

Now I don't quite understand if it means two of the SAME type, or just two types, because I have two:

I did this:
Open Device Manager.
Double-click DVD/CD-ROM drives.
If you see multiple entries for the same device, examine the properties associated with each of them, and compare them to the settings recommended in your hardware documentation, to determine which of the entries you should keep.

And I saw
-Generic DVD-ROM SCSI CdRom Device
-LITEON DVD-ROM LTD1633D

Is this the problem? Do I get rid of one?

First off, this is the proper section, please don't post in Gaming for issues.

Anyways.

You have either Alcohol 120% or Daemon Tools installed. I'm guessing Daemon Tools.

That's not going to cause an issue.

Best bet is to just reinstall the game. Be sure to install it as an Administrator.

Yeah Deamon Tools....

Ok, thanks I'll try

I googled the issue you reported and it seems that it's not an isolated incident. It can be caused by any number of things, like Refresh Lock for Counterstrike.

Post back here when you're done and let me know if it works.
