Freight lanes - Banned player t202085 - 01-20-2019 Normal trade lanes stay in place operate as normal Larger trade lanes "Freight lanes" skip out stops and make direct routes through connecting systems like shown below: ![]() These lanes would operate slower than standard lanes so that it actually takes longer to use the direct lane route but requires less micro and these would also make traders more susceptible to pirates. This makes sense as we typically separate freight and civilian traffic in most cases inrl, it will also allow traders the freedom to choose laziness over safety with the risk of being punished for wanting to click 2 buttons per system instead of 8. Discuss RE: Freight lanes - Sombs - 01-20-2019 No. This would cause the exact opposite of streamlining traffic and thus player encounters. It is also not doable with the current engine. I also don't think people should get rewarded for AFK flying. That's something you can do in EVE. Edit: You can literally just F2 from one gate to the target gate if you want to be lazy. RE: Freight lanes - Querious - 01-20-2019 (01-20-2019, 04:07 AM)Sombra Hookier Wrote: No. Agreed. Besides, AFK flying means that you won't actually respond when pirates make a demand, resulting in your assured destruction when they show up. Even a voice line in normal NPC space dialogue discourages "falling asleep in space". It's just not viable to player interaction whatsoever. RE: Freight lanes - Grumblesaur - 01-20-2019 There are in-universe reasons for not wanting to do this as well; the current arrangement of trade lanes is intended to service all major destinations in a system by drawing traffic to hubs where they can switch course to the next hub or system departure point. Spending additional resources to build superfluous, low-traffic freight-specific connections would be expensive, wasteful, and increase the manpower required by police forces to dispatch patrol details to trade lane routes. For all the same reasons that you connect all your computers to your house to a router or switch rather than connecting every computer to every other computer -- far fewer cables, and one or a few central locations where you can view most or all of the traffic in the system. This keeps smuggler characters on their toes when they're feeling frisky and want to take the trade lanes. If you could just hop gate-to-gate and avoid the planets (and nearby capship patrols), hauling illicit goods would become too easy for the amount of money it nets you. Yes, this creates additional bottlenecks, but if pirates didn't have a place where they could snatch you without having to guess between two or three different lanes, they wouldn't have a reason to play. No pirates means no law enforcement. It's a big web of symbiotic relationships and relationships don't happen when everyone's alt-tabbed looking at boob pictures or watching YouTube riding the fast lane to the next jump gate. Besides, if making money quickly is your main goal in this game, you should be mining anyway. RE: Freight lanes - sasapinjic - 01-20-2019 (01-20-2019, 04:07 AM)Sombra Hookier Wrote: No. 1. Agreed 2. Agreed RE: Freight lanes - SnakThree - 01-20-2019 (01-20-2019, 04:07 AM)Sombra Hookier Wrote: No. So much this. Plus, imagine how busy and ugly systems would look on the map. RE: Freight lanes - Banned player t202085 - 01-20-2019 Traders wouldn't be rewarded, it would be slower and much easier to pirate, imagine getting caught in the middle of that lane, there's no way you going to be able to run to a station, with the snac nerf its hard enough to actually follow through on pirate threats RE: Freight lanes - SnakThree - 01-20-2019 Use Schorchers or Nova in piracy. The "Freight Lanes" would ruin the look of systems, the flow of traffic and it would not be easier to pirate, because most pirate are already camping Jump Gates, so it wouldn't change. RE: Freight lanes - Banned player t202085 - 01-20-2019 Yeah from an aesthetic point of few it would look aids so I agree that's not great. As a bison pilot though id say novas aren't a threat at all and bombers struggle to stay lined straight when being fired upon as well. RE: Freight lanes - Markam - 01-20-2019 As a lazy trader who does on occasion F2 the gate because trading is boring, I'm for an idea of this nature. Though I'd prefer it if lanes were all connected and you'd drop lane to get off at your stop. Considering the issues with lane changes though, probably too much effort for too little reward. |
