Official Discord Server for FLDiscovery - Invoker - 07-03-2019

Recent ban of Mep without giving any reasons pushed me to create this post.

Discovery is lacking official discord server, instead we have only unofficial.
And that not seemed to be that terrible, if server owner (which is not part of Disco staff) wasn't banning people by wish.

Like, Mep was banned without any given reason. That is not right way how things are supposed to be done.
Some people were interested "Why?" and invoked moderators. Mods said they have no access to logs, so it's Hannibal.

Am I the hell the only one bothered Discord server is being on mercy of such person?

My offer:
1) Create official discord server for Disco with owner is one of most reliable staff members.
2) Add official server link to discoverygc.com.
3) If staff shake-ups happen or owner behaves like current, re-create server and update link.

Why this should happen:
1) Positively affects atmosphere of server (plz no sarcastic jokes).
2) Gives people short way to join discord server rather than looking for it at forum or asking anybody else.

Hannibal is an awful person who should not hold any power anywhere so I completely agree with this idea of making another discord server and i am totally not salty because i also got banned over the most trivial of things.

I was asked to provide transparency regarding this (in the discord chat) and I will. I refrained from calling out the person who did the ban on the discord, as there are risks associated with that.

The person who did the ban was "M&M" who is the owner of the server, who I believe is an alt of Hannibal.
I asked him to provide a justification of the ban of Mep, and the following was provided;

I would not say it was worth a permanent ban, even if it was quite explicit. The ban was reversed and he rejoined a day later, so the timeout was reasonable.

I am sure Meps feelings about Hannibal had some basis, but the above is not exactly the best way to express it.

This incident aside, obviously having a non-staff member in charge of the discord is an unfortunate situation, and the staff are considering the options. The chief concern is that by making a new server we will not recover the full membership of the unofficial discord and all the backlog.

Is it not possible to ask for channel ownership to be passed to a staff member?

Same, idk how I got unbanned from the server but Hannibal banned me like the first day it was up

That seems unlikely to work given some of the special permissions that certain people have on the server.

Actually, with given the reason, I would not mind Mep to be banned, even permanently.
Players can always read the reason, think about and decide it might be too cruel, then appeal for revoking.
But wait... no reason was given for public to see it. Now I see the reason but that's a far too late.
And whole sanction was irrelevant and executed after 3-4 days after all that swearing stuff Mep posted, so not surprising that everyone didn't know why he was banned.
Silent permanent bans are a really bad thing.

If official server with link at main page was ever created, most of players would prefer to switch to official instead of unofficial.
The rest who didn't, will sooner or later realize they are at half-dead abandoned unofficial server and switch too.

It's high time we had a proper offsite chat, by the community, for the community. Free of any politics, drama or personal agendas and instead a communal, well-kept and tidy area for all to enjoy. Markam's point regarding trying to change an already established Discord is very much correct, however the sooner we take the plunge the sooner our heads are back above water.

So let's take that plunge and move to a proper, official Discord that works properly, for all of us.

There will of course be concerns with this course of action but we have nothing to lose in trying this and I'm pretty confident it can work. Let's all give it a shot, together.
