I would like to bring this to your attention:
Samura Secret Backdeal?
Now reading this doesnt seem like much in and of itself, then I realised I could not connect to the link to read the contract document - because it is on the KNFs private forum.
Does the community have right of reply? What about Kishiro? Like Samura they are trying to establish themselves as a proper faction.
I am all for corporate skullduggery and 'backroom' deals - but all this is part of the Discovery RP experience - and should not be placed behind a private external forum.
What are your thoughts?

I have a similar issues with factions that use a private forum as a message dump or place to post stories.
What ends up happening is the community doesn't get to see their RP. And personally I dont understand it. Surely they write so others can read?

In all fairness there are times when within a group or faction there may be things that aren't for the general knowledge of the public. I think it can make for better RP if for example the lawful factions can't just look into the unlawful factions message dump and see what is being discussed or planed. The same holds true for the unlawful factions... For example, just today I was able to read that the LN have posted one of their ships in Illinois due to smugglers using the system. This is VERY useful intel for my smuggler, I now know not to pass through there. On the other hand having this information kills RP.
On the other hand since we are allowed to belong to both lawful and unlawful factions this information passes both ways no matter what.

Your slipping, it is the LPI that is doing that, its their guard system :P
Also, your characters that aren't in that faction aren't supposed to know the information that you read in those dumps, as they are assumed to be secure channels. This has been said before and goes for all factions.

CR, for example, keeps private forums since it has rather complex ranking and leading system. CR operates as small house with all sections that house has and keeping one or two threads here on disco isnt enough. There is also recruitment center, flight school, leaders round, ships design and concept studio (under RP section) and many other things...entire board is rather complex and has almost the same sections we have here on disco.
With 200 members and almost 8000 posts it exists almost 3 years now. It has shout box that keeps spam threads and posts at very low numbers.
Its also a home of Xeno group known as Sons of Liberty.
So some faction have use for private forums if they want to deepen their role play and between player relationships.
