Planetform and the Gaians. Two entirely separate approaches to the responsibilities of humanity when faced with the prospect of alien life. In an argument as old as the first human settlements on Mars, Planetform Incorporated – which has made a stable fortune near-immune to the instabilities of warfare and strife, has gained unimaginable power and influence by selling a product that will never cease to be in demand: life. The right to step outside of a colony without wearing an EVA suit. The right to be insulated against disease or deadly xenofauna on terrestrial worlds. The right to sit under the mountain ranges and forests that humanity had evolved for. The right to farm Earthlike crops under Earthlike farming systems. The right to build, explore, and exploit the resources of worlds removed by dozens of lightyears from Earth’s birthplace, without feeling a single pang of loss for the home we left behind.

Planetform has marketed – and delivered – on this vision since it first pioneered rapid-scale terraforming technology. Whilst other entities have tried to match Planetform’s services sectorwide, few have the expertise to geo-engineer such a diverse variety of worlds. Yet Planetform’s success at distributing the life of Earth throughout the stars has come at an unspoken, unimaginable cost. Quadrillions of species, from single-celled zygotes up to advanced fauna, driven to extinction by geo-engineering, the introduction of Earthlife, and systemic elimination to render planets safe for human habitation. For a company whose business model is built upon the prospect of bending evolution to heel, this is simply a component of the job, an ethical quibble whose consequences are insignificant compared to the vast prosperity and happiness of the human houses as a whole.

The Gaians, belligerently, disagree. As do the Unioners, who have their own, more fiscally slanted reasons for despising the company; the artificial heating of the Stuttgart atmosphere by Planetform has allowed Synth Foods to tighten their stranglehold on the autonomy of Rheinland’s fairest world, at the xenocide of nearly the entire native biosphere. United in their displeasure at an entity that would make a profit peddling the keys to life itself, the Unioners have invited the Gaians to raid the massive fertilizer storage plants in orbit of Atka – a planet on the brink of stage one terraforming that Planetform hopes will provide the company with centuries of future earnings. With the majority of Sirian agriculture beholden to Planetform’s biochemicals, the disruption of the Cold Bay Depot’s distribution networks would play into the hands of economic protectionists Siriuswide – and would boost the ecoprotectionist causes of the Gaians by no small measure. However, Atka is a tough nut to crack. Existing in the Political knifezone of the Liberty-Rheinland border, the airspace surrounding Atka and the Cold Bay biochemicals depot are innumerable Liberty Navy patrols, not to mention a sizable bounty hunter presence drawn to the region by the lucrative contracts on pirates who would dare raid the last remaining connection on the Liberty-Rheinland trade routes, paid for in full by Federal Rheinland and Liberty alike. With the LSF hawkishly attentive to massed Unioner movements out of the Tanner belt, the Unioners, historically fond of bombastic acts of bloody piracy, have been forced to make only muted rob-and-fade strikes on the traffic passing through the trade lanes – hardly sufficient to dent Planetform’s margin before the product crosses the nearby Rheinland border. The status quo has persisted so far, without interruption.

That is, Until 826 AS.

In late 826 a massive contingent of the more extremist elements of the Gaian movement crossed the Vespucci-Kansas gap and headed for the independent worlds under the cover of the Texas dark matter storms, reaching the Tanner Belt without arousing suspicion. Once on station, they swiftly received resupply by a sizable contingent of enraged Union-LWB backers, who had long awaited an opportunity to strike at Atka in full. Sortieing from the Pacifica shipyard, the forces crossed the gap into Hudson, screaming full-burn towards high orbit and the traffic passing through the planetary gravity well. The Gaians, indiscriminately engaging targets of opportunity, started with incoming Spa and Cruise liners, bound through the lanes to the Baden Baden pleasure world of southern Rheinland.

The raid on Cold Bay had begun.










Event Phase:

- This will be a mixed fleet action, with Gaians and Unioners, temporarily working together against Planetform to raid the Cold Bay Depot. Gaians can engage Liberty Navy and BHG Hunters for event duration freely.

- Both sides will engage until the other side has no remaining ships.

- Restocking is forbidden, as is the use of cloaking devices.

- New ships may not enter the field of engagement once the battle is joined. If you missed it, don’t worry, there’ll be more.

- Dual razors are forbidden to increase fight longevity and prevent instantaneous kills delivered by fighters as much as possible. If you want to kill people instantly, you need to run the risk of warship fire or self-damage from munitions.




Event Rules:

The event is a simple engagement event, without phases or complexity.

The Event requires Slots.

Just as a request if there are any future events involving planetform in or around Liberty I'd love to have the Xenos involved given the long-standing hostility between both factions in lore. Consider it food for thought if there is a "sequel" to this. Adding in too many factions on short notice would probably convolute the whole thing.
