The dust had barely settled on the first blows of the war when Lorraine was wrestled from the Confederation's grasp. The lightning-quick and savage action of the Matsumoto and Hamamatsu had caught the Defence Forces off guard, and they were keen to not let that happen again on the doorstep of Nevers. The stricken Epinal and the Venissieux have seen their strike groups augmented with those from the nearby orbiting Dijon and Avallon stations, and while the majority may be freshly trained fighter pilots and volunteers, the Venissieux's crew have been well trained in the art of signal interference and detection ever since Rocroi's defection and subsequent strikes.

Such training has led to today, when the Matsumoto - ahead of schedule, and hoping to seize even more of an advantage over her beleaguered opponents - let loose a wing of snubcraft to swing wide around Planet Beaune, hoping to run the blockade of the Epinal strike group and harry the supply lines of the Nevers defenders into submission. Quickly detected, the Venissieux sortied a wing of its own strikecraft to intercept, with a plotted engagement point just east of the Tille Debris Field. Little known to either group, the Rocroi had decided to break her silent vigil - and so, a small but elite group of Enclave pilots cut their way through the Tille, a field full of targets waiting to receive them. To most, Kusari was the enemy, the aggressor - but there were scores to settle with the Venissieux battlegroup too, who had long harried their patrols.

The lines were drawn and orders were given -- a grand clash of pilots in the dead of space, for little tactical or strategic gain. C'est la vie.
