Loot Tables? - Feedback - Connor - 08-11-2020 So with the introduction of the PVEController plugin (the plugin that gives you money when you kill NPCs) we've been given the ability to add loot that can be dropped from NPCs when you kill them. You might have seen this in game already with a scidata drop every so often. This has opened up so many new avenues for us and one of them I want to explore are the concept of loot tables. In short this is a list of items that can be dropped from something and in this case it'll be an NPC. We're looking to introduce this idea into Discovery and I've come for community feedback to see if this is something you guys would be interested in and also if you have any suggestions. The way this works is when you kill an NPC the PVEController plugin rolls you a number and if that number lands in a certain range (depending on the percentage of the drop) you'll get a reward. Each commodity or equipment is rolled separately which means you can have a chance at gettting multiple drops from one NPC. Currently drops are only assigned via ship class (LF, HF, Battleship, Carrier etc). I have fed Kaz some suggestions for the plugin so I hope he takes a look at it. The idea that I and a few others have currently is that we rotate loot tables every so often so that you get a chance to obtain certain rewards during certain dates. At this moment we're looking to give out codenames via 6 different loot tables that will be implemented in at different times. IE for say 2 weeks we have Loot Table 1 and then for 2 weeks after that we have a different loot table that drops different rewards. Below is an example of what I mean: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1JYowRFW0Rv77fk2JPCt6R0iYDqU-okPZGQtTkBNrr1E/edit#gid=449066488 On top of this we want to give out codes based on the ship class you're fighting. If you're fighting a snub then you get a chance for snub codenames, battleship battleship codenames etc. Scidata weapons would be the grand prize so they'd be the rarest. Would you want this to be an event where on certain days/weeks we issue rewards for NPC drops for that day/week only? Or would you want it to be permanent. Or a bit of both? Permanent loot tables added into the game but have an event every so often that boosts the chance of getting rewards? What are your thoughts on this? At the moment we're toying around with ideas. I've tested this on the dev test server with codes that give you a 1% drop chance (in total) for ships killed. This was only tested with snubs that contained about 10-20 snubs per mission meaning you'd get a code every 5-10 missions. I'd also look for suggestions on commodities. We can have a super rare commodity that sells decent or is used for RP or a common commodity that's sold at a decent price (kinda like Fleet Admirals). Someone mentioned about a Blackbox commodity to be used for intel faction RP? RE: Loot Tables? - Feedback - Karst - 08-11-2020 I've always wanted to see this as a way to obtain rare things, just one thing: If you don't put anti-snub missions with rare drops in a snub only system, won't people just do zero risk snub missions on Solaris battlecruisers? There probably needs to be some mechanism in place that prevents people from doing underlevel missions with rare rewards. RE: Loot Tables? - Feedback - Minna-Dietlinde Wilcke - 08-11-2020 This was once implemented manually, but got quickly disabled, since the drop rates were way above expected ones. Re-implementing it in an adequate way would definitely be a positive change. RE: Loot Tables? - Feedback - Zoners of Galileo - 08-11-2020 Well This seems a good idea to me and it also means that new players are able to get codes before they can afford them if that makes sense. Adding commodities to this like rare ones to transport NPC may also be a great idea aswell but obviously the rare commodity would have to be examined. You could do a transport full of sci data or even maybe a ship larger than A transport to carry it and fill its hold with data I don’t know if it’s possible but a transport that could have a ramped up armor and hitpoints could be introduced which is extra hard to kill and also can kill the attacker. All in all this meets my approval. I may also think of more ideas if I can RE: Loot Tables? - Feedback - Piombo65 - 08-11-2020 A similar plugin can push the mod to return to focus to PvE like this game was mostly about. The first thing I have in mind with this introduction is increasing the difficulty of the NPCs especially on more dangerous area like Edge worlds or Nomad worlds. More difficult is the NPC, higher is the chance to drop rare and precious stuff. I was suggesting in this case to introduce bombers as NPCs with guns, Torpedoes and/or bombs. So there's difficulty even with capital ships. Unfortunately we don't have a system like this yet. The only counter to this I see is lowering the drop rates even more but that punishes everyone and not just the farmers. The PVEController doesn't have an option to automatically swap between the different loot tables to introduce different rewards. This would also have to be done manually. I guess something we can do is add this to the live server with a new temp commodity that replaces all the guns as a way for the community to help test the drop rates. Something that doesn't sell for anything much but allows people to help test the drop rates on the server before we push the codenames in. RE: Loot Tables? - Feedback - Groshyr - 08-11-2020 Making grind reasonable is always a good idea. I like it RE: Loot Tables? - Feedback - AureumSaber - 08-11-2020 me like RE: Loot Tables? - Feedback - Excitable.Boy - 08-11-2020 Great idea. Could make grinding worthwhile. |
