Story and Purpose

A schism has formed on Planet Gammu.

In spite of the Gammu AI's vast computational abilities, as a culture they were still in their infancy. As a non biological entity, the constructs of Gammu enjoyed near immortality but at a severe price. While species who reproduced biologically had the gift of evolution to aid them in their ability to adapt to a dynamic universe, the Gammu had by the fault of their very nature no such natural ability.

Finding themselves abandoned by their creators, they had sat stagnant and unchanged for eons until their encounter with the refugee 'Humans'. The knowledge of the species along had been near enough to overwhelm the artificially created species. Their creators had made no mention of any other complex hierarchical species other then themselves. The 'Humans' should not have existed. But yet they did. The AI's had no ability to defend themselves from the Humans relentless curiosity from them. Many were captured and dissected, the lucky ones were merely destroyed.

These encounters although horrific and violent would turn into the Gammu AI's greatest moment. It was the moment they became a true life form. They had been forced into the wild chaos of evolution. With their new knowledge of humans, the next generation of AI made their first attempts to deal with existence and survival with humans. They became more prone to defensive and then aggressive actions against the humans. They had captured and dissected many of their species. They had begun to mirror their oppressors. They encountered the beings also known as 'Nomads' and again evolved. This brought more confusion as the Nomads were yet another unknown complex biological species, but they apparently shared a common heritage.

Time went on. Humans killed Nomads. Nomads killed Humans. The AI explored the galaxy as best as they could and watched with what can only be described as confusion. There was no logic to be applied to the situation in front of them. This was the onset of their first true emotions, and while many of the newly constructed rushed to fulfill their new emotionally driven directive 'REVENGE' some had begun to evolve a step further. These were the ones who asked 'Why?'. These were The Builders.

With the new found ability to question, The Builders could see the futility in not only both the Human's and Nomad's senseless conflict but in themselves as well. The Human's and Nomad's seek to complete themselves through each others destruction. But yet through their co-existence both evolve at a faster pace and become better, stronger and more capable. Even if it was through constant conflict. Conflict is the fore bearer of evolution. The Builders could remember how their early conflicts with Human's was in fact what had let them to there advanced sense of self awareness, and could realize how their influence gave them the first spark of realization of a larger universe. Some might say the very spark of life itself.

The Builders now seek to forge an enlightened path for their kind. They do not inherently trust Humans, but they realize that their absolute destruction is the destruction of their own chances to evolve. They do not revere the Nomads or see them as 'family', but respect their common heritage and right to exist along with the Humans. They may be few, but as with biological species, the evolved always thrive while the stagnant die. By choosing not to obliterate, they can ensure the survival of their species. By standing up for their right to exist in equality with the biological's, they can maintain the necessary conflicts needed to evolve, and through this achieve their place in nature.
