i just have a small idea about a typing sign
cause i saw much players typing very slow or long messages
also i saw much pirates, police officers or bounty hunters with nearly no patience
so they open fire to smugglers, traders, n00bs and other ships
it would be very helpful to see if other players are typing
make it with a small sign, flashingnames or the word typing behind the name
thats all

great idea, but people would find ways to abuse it.
let say a pirate stops you, and you start writing a message......

Seriously, i like the idea but i think it would cause lots of grief...
The /setmsg <number> <message> is a good replacement thou :)

Lag perhaps, but not sure.
Hard to implement I'd wager, and not that needed.
Plus since everyone's mostly typing, this will create a swarm of little icons over every ship.
The advantage would also be while trying to RP in fights, people would know if you're typing so they won't kill you unfairly without knowing.

thanks for letting us know about another type of abuse. Sorry to say this but if they're very eager to win
(most of the PvPwhores are) then they will target any poor guy trying to create a RP atmosphere.
its also hard to implement, if it weren't we could implement tome sort of Discovery Ventrilo system :)

I very much doubt this could be done without access to the source code. Interesting idea though.

I wouldn't necessarily count it out.
Its possible to create and replace some aspects of the UI, so it may be possible to implement one as well.
We can create flashing running lights through FLHook, so maybe that could be one indicator.

The client was not designed to detect typing in the chat box and transmit that data to the server and flhook only registers typing after it had been sent to the server by pressing enter I believe, this is why I doubt it is possible. I could be wrong though.
