Just a thought that occured to me, because in real life torpedoes are used by both fast-striking bombers, and larger "capships" (destroyers and such)...

Obviously we can't let gunboats use Snacs and Nova Torpedoes, but...

What if we made the gun slot(s) on gunboats applicable for torpedoes and let them using something like the sunslayer... its a lower damage but efficient alternative still capable weapon for use on other capital ships. This would solve some of the problems gunboats have with the anti-capship/range "problem" that so many people have, allowing gunboats to use long range torpedoes that reasonable speed and damage. Either let GB's use the sunslayer, or maybe create a few "torpedoes" for the gunboat class.

But with all the complaining about GB's and how they suck against everything, I think providing a weapon for gunboats such as this...

Hull Damage: like 15 or 20k
Shield Damage: half of that number above
Range: 3000m
Speed: 80m/s
Energy Usage: 100,000

...there. Not an uber weapon, not extremely deadly, but now the gunboats suddenly have the ability to provide anti-cap support, and at a range that isn't fricking suicidal.

We could make slots on gb's torp capable and make a rule saying "no Snacs/Nova torps", or maybe whip up a couple gunboat torpedo weapons before we finalize the mod.

Pleeeeez i think this really solves alot of the boohoo'ing about GB's.

Yeah the point of the whole thing is simply making gunboats "applicable" versus other large ships, without giving it some uber weapon or long range sniping tool

The gunboat is already quite nice in a fleet support role against destroyers and cruisers. Perhaps not quite as marvellous as a bomber, but still a fine addition.

Not saying I have anything against the idea, just that I think the current level of effectiveness is sufficient.

Specific torpedo classes cannot be made. I would love to see sideways firing torpedoes on battleships but the fact remains that
IF YOU GIVE CAPITAL SHIPS TORPEDO SLOT THEY WILL MOUNT SUPER NOVAS

And that's something the server does not need. Kusari gunboat with a SNAC... *shudders*

And we simply don't need any more rules...

Common sense. Get some. Do people use Improved cargo scanners? No? What about Mk IV Armour? Again, no? Not if they can afford the better piece of equipment.

i do think that there should be a gun that does better damage then a battlerazer, but would be alot slower. so it cannot be used for snipeing
