Yet another rant about missions - Montezuma/Kukulcan - 04-07-2009

To start off, if anyone thinks this is a waste of space and time, please feel free to keep their opinions to themselves. Right, down to it. I have been doing missions in my corsair cruiser for a very long time now, with very little change in the loadout, even from 4.84. Now as i am sure the inhabitants of gamma have heard recently, i have strong opinions about missions and the like, this has all stemed from two particular incidents i recently observed.

What happened in the first incident, was, in all truth, beyond belief. I was doing missions to earn some quick money to buy a light mortar, i was taking progessively harder missions as i tested the strength of my cruiser (none of this was done in a group with anyone). I eventually took a "kill ships" mission from tripoli worth 850,000 credits. Leaving tripoli and heading to the waypoint i was expecting quite an onslaught, perhaps even two waves of destroyers. When i reached the waypoint, i was confronted with eight fighters, thinking this was just the start, i went about slaughtering the poor hammerhead pilots. As the last few died, i was surprised not to have 5 destroyers on my scanners already, this turned out to be a result of there not being any, the mission was over.

The second incident was on another "kill ships" mission, this time worth 500,000 credits. Being intregued by the mission earlier, i decided to time my efforts. I was amazed when i finished the mission which only invoved killing two wings of fighters, to find that it had taken me 39 seconds. THIRTY NINE SECONDS. Now being a veteran of much powertrading, it strilkes me as insane that given the loot value, i earned around 1 million credits in the time it took me to get 13 k from tripoli and back, plus 39 seconds. Without the threat of destroyers, of which i have encountered none all day (in my missions that is, i was called to help someone with their own mission involving destroyers), it seems to me that with a well outfitted cruiser you could make obselete the need to have a trader to earn quick money.

These are just my experiences and thoughts, i would make this a sereious consideration to up the difficulty of missions for the next update/beta/release or whatever is next. If there is a reason why missions have become so insanely easy i would very much like to hear it, and anyone else who has had a similar experience, please share it with us as i for one would very much like to hear them.

The irony of it all.

Nonetheless, considering what everyone else has said about missions, It would seem that gamma is more the exception than the rule in terms of difficulty.

Well, if it is the come to gamma for easy money. So everywhere else the missions are too hard?

I'm no expert, but from what I've heard everybody else say, the general consensus is that these missions can be too hard. Specifically, you don't know when you're gonna get 5 BS or 5 VHF.

I've noticed this too, but sometimes you can get missions for 300k which spawns about 5 osirises.

The level of the missions affect what will spawn.
Unfortunately, capital ships etc are only classified as freighters, so you can't really distinguish them from other ships specifically when it comes to missions.
Hit and miss really, but I have a new money making method now:)
