Dunlin. Civilian Frigate - slicker1 - 10-13-2021
Just tried the new Frigate and want to warn anyone before they buy it. It is a beast to fly. It looks good. Its configured well with good Guns and Shields, but oh boy it's hard to dock on trade lanes.
Its a shame really as in all other respects its perfect for outer world trips in nomad systems. Would have been great for mining Azurite Gas and Iridium.

It can't be a beast just bcus transport turrets are totes crap, eh. They can be good against other transports only, and sometimes against fighters. That's all tbh. Imo, it'd be great if it had about four GB primary hps, or at least one GB hvy. Or smth like that. Since it's a frigate, not just a battletransport. And size could be increased a lil, I think. Otherwise it's just so, yah – flies well, looks gorgeous.

It can be a little awkward to dock at times, but using cockpit view helps with that.

it fails many times docking on trade lanes, but overall i like the ship, and i'm planning to continue to use it as my main trader.

I've tweaked its dock points for next patch which should hopefully help it have a bit easier time with lanes, tho the ship is actually quite larger than you might expect so it can't really fly like a typical 3k trans, and instead trying to dock it like a cap (docking with lanes from a slight bit farther away and not trying to dock at too sharp of an angle, etc) ends up workin out a lot better.

First, I want to say that I love the Ship, Its looks and the Model are Amazing Work. But not only me but also others have already Noted the ship that is Called a Frigate (What Hints that you Buy a Warship) is Armed with Transport Guns. I didn't Expect a Full Term Cruiser but at least something with a bit more Punch. The Intended Role I wanted to Roleplay this ship in was that OS&C Buys between 2 and 4 of them to Boost the Defenses of the Company. The Hope was that it was something like downscaled Q-Ship that at least have Gunboat Weapons, or maybe a Couple Cruiser Guns. It would be Cool for Companys who Own Planets or Stations in Dangerous Regions like the Borderworlds. to Buy a Couple of that INRP as some sort of Low Scale Corporate Army/Mercenaries. We already have the Bustard that Fills Kind Off in such a Role and if the Dunlin could be Boosted, she could become a Worthy Support ship for a Bustard. I and others have already talked with some of the Staff that wanted to take a look into the Beauty that is the Dunlin and I am happy about that. But for now, I can only advise you to consider that she has Heavy Defenses but not so good Offensive Capabilities. For me, she was still worth her Price and I am highly Interested in how this ship maybe gets Upgraded in the Future.

We have another frigate in the game - Salvager. It can mount both transport and gunboat turrets. Dunno, will it be strange for Dunlin to have 12 gunboat turrets? Well, even the ability to mount 2 heavy gunboat turrets will make it better.
TL;DR Make it like Salvager frigate, but better.

Tbh we actually have five frigates: Salvager, Raba, Scarab, Grendel, Dunlin. And even Corvo can be count as frigate, I think.
Maybe it's time to give them their own class? Hmm. Or at least indicate this in the infocards.

Just give it gunboat turrets. Or at least change some of the transport turret slots to cruiser.
Its just a big fat battletransport with a large hull pool and boosted shield. Nothing that makes it feel like a frigate.
You can better pick a bustard if you want a transport with alot of armor and shield. It will outclass this thing on every front.
couple Ideas for making this frigate into more of a frigate:
- Give it a CD to let it pirate.
- Change transport turrets for gunboat turrets.
- Change 4 of the transport turrets to cruiser turrets.
- reduce the size
Otherwise I want to say that I love the model. Kudos for making it, I like it alot. It just needs to be rebalanced abit. Best idea I can come up with is making it a hybrid ship like the ships mentioned in earlier posts.
