[Opinion & Poll]: Storm in Kepler - Mark_Brown - 02-15-2022 Hello everyone, For those that don't know me. I'm Bellck, leader of the US| Universal Shipping Inc faction in Liberty. I'm posting here today to address an issue that my people are having. My people being the folk who enjoys the transport industry and making money at the value of effort with high-value high-risk cargo. It has come to my attention after speaking to one or two base owners within Kepler - Please note at this point I do not own or have ever owned a base in Kepler. That their costs of their bases are higher than others due to the storm, of course our RP of the storm increases significant risk and improves our RP reasons to dwell within. However; The storm damages your ship, weapons and equipment. This cost is then turned to the base owner, as their cost to produce extra money for transports to dock at their bases. If you turn auto-buy off, you can repair your ships for free on a PoB, yes of course. But you then have to depart from said station causing significant damage to your ship (even at low cost) This has been either close too, or surpassed a year without any further updates to "the storm" I'm asking you to bring your opinion here, hopefully our opinion as a server could change the developers lead on such area. So I'm asking you. Do you: A: Remove the storm completely. B: Allow for the story to proceed, damaging base owners pockets - (possibily leading them to move their pob, reducing RP, or the need to fly through kepler) C Keep the storm, but remove the damage i.e storm level 2 is lower impact. If this storm has impacted you, I'd like to hear how, and your opinion on the system going forward. Of course this post will not force any Dev to do anything to the server, but will hopefully give them an insite to how the community is feeling about the storm in Kepler right now. Pushing for development and safeguarding the health of the Discovery Freelancer community, As always, Bellck. RE: [Opinion & Poll]: Storm in Kepler - Aingar - 02-15-2022 What is the realistic amount of money 'drained' by the damage? I honestly doubt it goes above 100k per run, which is pennies. I honestly doubt it goes above 100k per run, which is pennies. You are correct, however those pennies add up to those base owners requiring over 50k goods. Then upkeep of Food, Water, Oxygen, and repairs every week. Thousands turn into Hundreds of Thousands, then into millions. Temporary/minimal impact for a pass through, heavy impact on a base owner. Bellck RE: [Opinion & Poll]: Storm in Kepler - Shinju - 02-15-2022 To be honest, it's not that bad at all. And I am saying this as a person in poor class of Discovery. Few hours there with battleship and I had to pay around 2M, mind u that my battleship is equipped with Cloak, Jump Drive, DMs, tons of expensive weapons. If it was up to me, I would even make damage higher, dark matter storms are a hazard, hazard which is supposed to make you take a detour through Galileo. Some of these PoBs however popped up there after the storm was introduced in Kepler, so they had to take this into account. If it's still terrible for some base owners, mind you base owners should have a lot of money if they manage to keep PoB alive, so few repairs here and there on not really expensive transports, then they always can RP and relocate their bases. RE: [Opinion & Poll]: Storm in Kepler - Goliath - 02-15-2022 I hardly believe Dark Matter storms will nerf themselves just because they're doing what they are supposed to do. Be a hazard. (As Shinju above pointed out.) RE: [Opinion & Poll]: Storm in Kepler - James Greed - 02-15-2022 A hazard acts as a hazard. Colour me surprised. I could imagine it being a problem to nomad and infected snubs who dock on the Wyoming. Loosing a few bots there is probably a headache, rushing towards a fight. If you can get over being pirated for a few million credits, a storm mugging you for repair money won't break the bank. RE: [Opinion & Poll]: Storm in Kepler - Groshyr - 02-15-2022 Hazard option is the only valid for such environment. Making it casual will ruin atmosphere developed for this area RE: [Opinion & Poll]: Storm in Kepler - Mark_Brown - 02-15-2022 Interesting points, but does Kepler need to be a hazard? (regardless of strength) The opinions keep flowing.... RE: [Opinion & Poll]: Storm in Kepler - Darius - 02-15-2022 I'm not entirely sure how the "hazard" zones work, but is it not possible to simply increase damage patch by patch while leaving a few corridors from both the Xeno base and Wyoming + Ames as safe zones? That way people don't get too damaged and the rest of the systems can be portrayed as filled with dark matter.
